If not _this_ exact model, I owned one of these circa 1999-2001. I can't remember the model number but the layout was similar to what's shown here in your video. The discs were expensive as I recall. I didn't use anything but Philips branded CDs for the first year or so. I made discs for a few friends and forgot to finalize these on occasion. I knew 'The Look' when someone was approaching me holding that jewel case out in front of them. When I got my first laptop, a 30GB Gateway, in late-2002 I gave the Philips CD burner to my younger brothers to tinker with and they used it for several years. I still have every disc I ever burned for my use and some of these are precious artifacts of another era. Thinking about it now I wish I had backed-up my cassette collection for some of the rarities that I listened to at the time, primarily the 'cassette singles' and a couple of Personics tapes I had made at the Franklin Mills Mall in 1990.

Haven’t heard of franklin mills mall in 20 years. I painted just about ever store in there and some of them twice. The stories I could tell… Better yet if a mall could tell stories this 1000% was and I’m sure still is the place.

Thank you for nthis. I believe my CD recorder also has that record type button on it. You explain it well, even though I have the instruction manuel I don't know why all CD recorders don't make it as easy as cassette decks. Push rec or rec. and play then start the cassette. I know some of them are about that easy but I also got mine from ebay. Now I'm a little less nervous about using it.

How do you decide on the level of the source music? Minimal or Maximum? It seems to me that too high will distort on the CD side and minimal on the source side will bring over too much tape noise rather than music signal.

I have this model. Perfect for recording from analog. It worked perfect for awhile but then started getting finicky even with the correct discs. It began to get OPC errors all the time. Powering on and off several tries tended to 'fix' it just to be able to use it. Sometimes the discs would have static on playback for some reason. (Several tries and it finally worked doing nothing any different?) So have extra CD-Rs laying around, because you wont be able to tell if the disc was successful without finalizing. The CD player side always stopped working when I used it (you can hear a high pitched whine from the drive and the disc would just stop playing either playing or dubbing a disc for no apparent reason) I assume it was related to the OCR errors. I dont know, its a shame. Nobody around where I live repairs these things. Again, it was great unit, when it worked. Just wish i had got more life out of it before it went crazy.

How often do you clean your laser lens? I had a Philips 765 CD Recorder and found that it operated consistently if I cleaned the lens after several hours of use. If you allow build up on the lens to linger for long periods, like most anything, it creates a coating that becomes harder to remove, and prevent the lens from recognizing and recording to the discs. Just like engine oil build up from leaking seals will contribute to your engine overheating.

I connected my Goodman's dab to a cdr recorder to record program. I inadvertently put the phono leads into the recorder's Outputs instead of the inputs & now the DAB wont work, it does light up but won't search stations. The cdr wasn't playing anything. The CDR works fine but not the Dab radio. Makes no sense. Help please!.

I had two Philips CD recorders both that did keep making errors on the discs. The other problem you have to buy CD-R Music cd's not the standard CD-R's you use for the pc that cost twice as much.

You must buy CD-Rs that have the words "Digital Audio" printed in the logo. If the discs don't have the words digital audio printed on them, they will not work.

Use a computer to burn CD's you won't have to worry about compatability, you can use any brand of CD as opposed to using Music CD-R discs, to capture audio use a decent boombox or a tape walkman, use a rca phono cable which has a headphone jack and red, white cable and connect it to your walkman, use ADS tech USB Audio capture hardware for best results. Use audacity for capture, you can separate the tracks as well. No need for a CD Recorder...
@dlarge65025 жыл бұрын
I have all that stuff but I have to say that plugging it all together and using it is a lot more work when compared to just pressing the single record button on the CD recorder, then ripping the disc on the PC. These days when people think about digitising a tape or a LP they are likely to pick up a turntable or walkman with a USB output saving them from having to use the ADS USB sound card with cables trailing everywhere. A CD recorder (if you already have one) adds only 1 more step (the ripping step) and still saves all the cables, plus it can play CD's like the USB turntable can play the LP's. Before I picked up a CD recorder (cheaply) I used to use the USB soundcard and audacity. However it made the living room floor a bit of a mess for as long as I had the stuff wired up. If you dont have a CD recorder or dont get one for a good price the USB soundcard will be a lot cheaper.
