One of the best things a budding cinematographer can do to improve their craft is adhere the values of a professional who was once working with minimal resources, and witness that through taking the time to develop one’s craft - the possibilities are endless.
On this exciting week of the LS 1200D launch, we do just that by following Nate Fu, a product cinematographer who specializes in motion control cinematography. We discover the importance of upholding an organized workflow, how tone and mood can define your story, and the complexities of macro cinematography. The steps of Nate’s process showcase a unique understanding for how machinery and products present a newly found visual language in a thriving industry.
Why motion control cinematography? Even with a workflow as distinctive as this, many of the principles that inform cinematic lighting follow through in Nate’s work. The ideals of creating texture through light pattern and backlighting are prevalent in today’s video.

Notes for self: 1 stop = 2x the light or Half the light. Full stops: 0.7, 1, 1.4, 2 2,.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22, 32, 44. Therefore 6.6x amount of light = 2and 2/3 stops. PS: Jumping 1 stop = 2x, 2 stops = 4x, 3 stops = 8x, 4 stops = 16x, 5 stops = 32x

It's amazing how, yes. anyone with a beginner camera can recreate that shot, and that "its not about the gear", etc, but on a commercial level I see how you need to have the utmost quality and gear to get the job done.

Im more a documentary film maker, although Id love to try this robotic arm one day. At the moment 1/3 of my house are shelves for keeping filming products. Lol. I also keep things organized with ikea shelves. I understand you how frustrating can be sometimes when filmung and missing a filter, a lens or just the needed screw. Lol. If I make good money Ill buy a studio for storing and filming. At the moment Ill keep it at home. Thank you for your video. I identifyed myself in many things you shared.
