I'm new to woodworking - why did you choose a rip blade and not a crosscut blade?
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks Ай бұрын
Because of the shape of the teeth. The rip blade has square ground teeth so you get a flat bottomed groove. The crosscut blade has angled teeth with will make a V-groove on the bottom.

The only thing you did differently was raising the board at an angle instead of flat on the sled. I found a kit source that is much cheaper than what I paid on Amazon for my 1st 3 boards. My wife has a tip. Use a straw cleaning brush to clean the groove.

Thanks for the tips! The angle leaves more wood so the end of the cheese board so it isn't too weak and will easily break off.

@@biscuittreewoodworks I have been stating with 1" wide boards that I rotate and glue together like for a cutting board. Then any planning, sanding, etc. leave me plenty of wood. I just glued up 3, 12" wide boards yesterday and will end up with 6 cheese slicer boards. I use my Shopsmith in the horizontal boring mode to drill my holes.

Do you get wax down in the cutting slot?? Or is that a bad idea?

It won't hurt to get a little in there, just wipe out the excess.

Love your channel! One tip I use on multiple boards - put 3-4 boards in the parallel clamps at a time (I use wax paper in between each board). Saves clamps and space so I can get more done at once

Thanks! I’ll group multiple panels together when I’m batching out a bunch of boards as long as I’m comfortable getting them all in the clamps before the glue starts to set.

What type of drill bit did you use for the 1/4 hole?

Just a regular 1/4” brad point bit.

Your videos are great and straightforward, which is rare. When making the cheese boards, you showed an orbital sandal cradle. Tried to put one together based on what I saw and yeah it didn’t work. Could you possibly show how you made that? Semper Fi.
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks 7 ай бұрын
I thought about doing a short video on it. The problem with that is the cradle needs to be designed differently for different makes and models of sander. If you look closely at mine it’s not perfect either. I have to wedge in a piece of scrap beneath one end of the sander to keep it somewhat level. You can also just clamp the sander in a vice, just use very light pressure!

Just a note all is well with this one, but always try to either round over or chamfer by first starting at the end grain and then the long grain this will ensure that all the chipout is removed.

I would soak the boards in mineral oil before the wax. Other than that, awesome video, beautiful board!
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks Жыл бұрын
I do that on larger boards. There’s enough mineral oil in the board butter that I don’t think it’s necessary on something this small. A couple coats and the wood has absorbed all the mineral oil it can. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! The recipe is no secret, I plan on making a video of it next time I make a batch. I use a 4:1 ratio of mineral oil to beeswax.

Question cutting the board in a angle is for
@biscuittreewoodworks
@biscuittreewoodworks 8 ай бұрын
The slot for the cheese cutting wire is cut at an angle for several reasons. You must cut deep enough to be able to install the wire, but if you cut all the way across the board leaving a very thin sliver of wood holding the board together it is very likely to break. Cutting all the way through the board on the one side makes it easier to install the wire but if you cut all the way across then you just cut off the top of the board. The angle also holds the handle side of the cutter up off of the table so you don't scratch your table and it's easier to grab the handle.
