I'm truly impressed! It's not only a machine it's a piece of art! What a true blessing it must be to have an opportunity to learn something like that.

You did a cracking job with the mahogany cladding there and it and the rest of fittings are certainly doing justice to the quality of the boiler. It's all looking rather beautiful and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the rest of this project, thank you.

As a woodworker I can say that super glue and sanding trick works well.

Beautiful! Thanks so much, Keith.

FYI, when notching the wood out for the fittings, I would have used the bandsaw to take many perpendicular cuts up to the pencil line. Then snap the pieces out and “waste away” the rest of the broken off pieces, essentially getting within a hair with just the bandsaw. Then I’d use the sanding drum to iron out the desired profile. Great vids; keep it up!

Very enjoyable video, but I am concerned that I have not seen a bahco adjustable spanner for many episodes.

Lovely work! I started to look for the boiler, but I suspect it's expensive. I might try to build one from 5" copper pipe.

Keith, the plank under the water gauge, is it thinner? .....

Oh ...... so it is ....... I didn't think anyone would notice :-)))

Does heat from the boiler affect the CA glue over time? Great idea for holding the cladding.
@keithappleton4 жыл бұрын
Yes I think so. But that is a good thing. The CA glue bond to the copper is not good, but the bond to the planking remains fine. If ever you need to remove the planking, the strips come away in groups which is useful

Hahaha First Comment!!! Love this stuff Keith!! Can't wait to get some more steam engines of my own. Keep up the great work!!

Do you know that somewhere like your local B&Q or Homebase stocks hardwood, not sure if it's mahogany, but it looks like it. Supplied in 8 ft strips, different widths up to about 2"

Quite often it is Sapele.

Keith, is there a specific cyanoacrylate adhesive that you prefer for bonding wood to metal? Super Glue, Krazy Glue, etc? Thank you for your channel, by the way. As a long-time subscriber, I've learned a lot from you.
@keithappleton7 жыл бұрын
Not really, I just use high or medium viscosity for my applications. I am glad that the channel content is of use to you.

I'm not sure if it would work, but would sticking planks together with painters tape and then drilling the hole be possible?
@keithappleton7 жыл бұрын
I doubt it, as the drill would push the gaps apart.
@RobertSzasz7 жыл бұрын
I don't have any bits of wood that would be comparable. Would you perhaps be willing to give it a try by wrapping tape all the way around the two pieces? (Just putting it on the surface would only give the strength of the glue, wrapping gives the full break strength of the tape) Hope I'm not being overly rude by asking, I quite enjoy your videos.
@keithappleton7 жыл бұрын
By which time, after all that messing about with sticky tape and measuring, then marking out and finding that the drill splits the wood, I can have the job completely finished by doing the way that I show in the video :-)))
@RobertSzasz7 жыл бұрын
That is a good point. Didn't think about overall workflow. Thanks for the replies and keep up the great vids.
