Thank you!!! I like explaining redstone at the end because it means the viewer can get a better understanding instead of aimlessly building what I say to build. Its unfortunate that for some people, its not what they want. But for people like you I'm happy for!!! I try to come up with the best contraptions I can when I can, and because I go through and make them myself, I can easily explain it for the people who stick around to learn some mechanics ;) Some of my videos arent really the highest quality I could make but im glad you liked this one! @TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc 14 күн бұрын
@@darkcc12. It's not possible to extend it beyond the limit natively using the pistons, but you can infinitely scale it along the piston array, so you can add as many pistons as you like alongside the rest of them. But that's only 1 axis. You'll just need to add more redstone, lava and water. To extend the other axis, what you can always do, is replicate the stone generator but flip it on the opposite side, facing into the same area, doing this you should be able to cover ground as big as 24 x how many blocks you want in the other axis, by joining the outputs of two generators. Think ingenuitively and it'll work! Could be tough going past 24 though, you may need to look into another design in that case.

@@lokegrnbech1878 So actually a really in-depth guy called Pixrliffs made a brilliant video using an auto stone generator to make one! - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqjLi42mrbNlsNU I myself arent as good as him in making functional farms, its just the redstone that im good at. Just ignore the first part when he makes the stone generator because if your using my stone generator, you wont need his! Around 7:35 is when he starts explaining the actual moss farm. You also need to get the dimensions right for the best efficiency. He built his 7 wide to get the most out of it. From what I make of it, you need to have a dispenser bonemealing a block of moss above the stone generator platform (around the middle. This should happen every so often. This will then cause moss to grow and you will need to use water to flush them to a collection point and a piston to get rid of everything growing on top of the moss being bonemealed. This is so that the dispenser can bonemeal the block instead of the grass/bush on top of it.

I will never understand when lava makes stone vs when it makes cobblestone o_e
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc 10 ай бұрын
You can kind of see it as, if the lava is the one 'flowing' into the water source block from above them, it will create stone, if the water is the one flowing into the lava that is also flowing from the other side, cobblestone is made. Lava -> water source = stone Flowing lava -> flowing water = cobblestone!

@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc 10 ай бұрын
@Hadeks_Marow hm I'd think that was still the case. For this contraption I tested it with lava flowing from above and it made stone, its probably more weighted on the direction the lava is flowing into the water and not the water flowing into the lava. Hence why this works. This was quite a while ago so I don't know exactly what happened in my experiments but this seemed to work. The lava being positioned above allows the lava to flow into the water instead of the other way around, this works with water source blocks too.

Are you sure the pistons are not at their piston push limit? If they aren't at their limit, then it should definitely work if you followed all the steps in the tutorial. Try making a smaller 1 wide version of this generator and test if the one piston work to generate a layer of stone until it's push limit. If it does, something is wrong in your original design for the main one, if it doesn't, then get back to me with some more details and I'll see if I can help more

@TheGoldenDragonmc

@@totoro3605 that's very odd.... Just to make sure, you are on Java Minecraft right? If you are not on the latest version, see if switching to the latest makes any difference. I'm very surprised that you've managed to glitch the piston such that it cannot be activated. If you break that piston and replace it, then try power the one you placed, does that work? Does the piston not work at all when powered by observers? Check the observer is facing the right way as well, you should be able to see it's face and the red dot on the other face should be pointing to the redstone line or piston to power it. Let me know if your testing yields any more results, if there is still no solution, I'll see if I can make a world download of the machine available for you to try and see what's wrong.

@@TheGoldenDragonmc Yes I'm on Java, changing the version had no effect. I've built the generator on a server now to see if that makes any difference but it's the same issue again. So I broke everything, removed the observers, and replaced the pistons. With no blocks to push, the piston row in the back does work. But once I place the placeholder blocks for the lava they stop working despite being powered. I've never had issues with observers, I built a semi-automatic tree farm with an entire wall of observer activated pistons right next to this. I don't think it's a chunk border issue either, it's very odd. That'd be much appreciated, thank you!

@@totoro3605 that is really really odd but at least you've handled redstone before lol, unlike some people visiting this video and are just beginners at it, you must know what you're doing, so in that sense it's even more strange you can't get it to work. I've put the world download in the description. Try loading that up and analysing it, see how it's different to yours, I rebuilt the model one just now off of the videos instructions just to make sure I didn't make any errors explaining and it works perfectly. If the model gen in the download doesn't work then I think the problem is much less obvious than we think. See how it goes, update me with any progress. Hopefully you can find the problem!

How would you break the block that fast in survival? I've built this both in survival and creative and the one in creative works perfectly because of how fast I can break the block but the one in survival the block won't break as fast and so I have to keep placing and breaking a block in order for it to generate more stone.
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc Жыл бұрын
Well anything that triggers the wall change will do, like a trapdoor or something of the likes. You don't even have to break it, really, it's just that a change has to happen to the wall for the observer to pulse. The block was just an example and I known I should have explained it better but there are other blocks that change the wall state much easier! Also, this was mainly designed with sculk farms and moss farms in mind so there would be no need to constantly restart it because the stone would be taken away/broken constantly. But it can be used otherwise, its just more tedious that way.

I dont know what has been changed but this machine doesn't work, the stone is always generated at the bottom, meaning the top pistons push nothing and there is just a stone row sitting at the bottom.
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc Жыл бұрын
I'm 99 percent sure it hasn't changed... did you relook at what I did? Did you make sure the walls are placed directly next to where the stone will be made? And did you make sure an observer can detect that and pulse the set of target blocks to activate the bottom pistons? (1:37) If everything is connected properly, check you have a 2 tick delay to the top array of pistons so the bottom ones have chance to push the stone upwards before the top pushes them outwards (2:44) Hope this helps! Let me know if it still isn't working, give me some more specifics and I'll try my best to sort it out.
@YouCountSheep
@YouCountSheep Жыл бұрын
@@TheGoldenDragonmc I set it up exactly like you in the video. 2 ticks etc. The stone forms on the bottom and not infront of the pistons. The pistons don't push the stone out because its one block below when the lava solidifies. No matter now, I developed my own. Im on Java maybe you are on Bedrock? Usually stone generators don't work that well when the water comes from the sides. Also I read about something having to do with cardinal directions that it might interferes. Anyways I have a machine now with pulse generator and pulse shorteners. Kinda like yours but I am actually not pushing the stone out I am pulling it from the bottom layer infront of another set of pistons that push the row upward and then another set that pushes them to the side again. I can even make 3 layers of stone in a block, and I could extend that thing to insane dimensions, easily 50 blocks wide and a thickness of 10. Quite literally a block of any width I want 10 blocks high or 9 I think and 12 long. :) And 100% smoothstone without hiccups when I start it correctly.
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc Жыл бұрын
@@YouCountSheep Ok! I guess its fine then. Pretty much everyone else has found it works well, and I have even tested it again and it works for me? What should happen is the bottom pistons facing upwards pushes the stone blocks that form, upwards (via a block update to the walls) and into the path of the horizontal array of pistons at the top, who push out the blocks 2 ticks later... Im not sure what happened to you, but Im definitely not in Bedrock... Also, the stone solidifies one block below the horizontal pistons **but then the vertical pistons facing up from below where the stone is formed should trigger** you need these pistons below to push the blocks up so they can then be pushed by the horizontal array. You probably didnt wire them up properly as it works perfectly for me in a new minecraft world! The reason why I built it this way, is because you could easily expand it (horizontally) as the water flows from the side and lava from the top, so they both dont intervene with the actual contraption, and it can help if you have a giant project that needs smooth stone at a larger rate.... @@Sniffingfood if it's the shulkercraft bonemeal farm I think you're on about (one made 2 years ago with 1.4M views) then after some digging, I've found there's a comment that may have the solution you need. Seems like an old design, so it's down to have some errors that need fixing for the later updates. The situation seems that for your problem - the dropper system used to transport the items up into the hoppers that lead to the dispenser on the mossblock in the centre - does not work properly. To fix this, you can replace the droppers with a bubble elevator, or fix the redstone timing using the comment I will describe. Look in the comments section for a person named 'bababoy3837' with a chicken face as a profile picture. He seems to have had the same problem as you and gives you details on what to do. There are some other comments too that might help along with that one. This help only applies if (I assume) you're using the old shulkercraft design. Alternatively, you can use an updated design! Everything doesn't come easy so you were bound to run into troubles! Whenever you fiddle with redstone that's the case, but you can learn. Hopefully this helped?! @TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc Жыл бұрын
Well you can do that but it depends on what you need. If you place them just far enough, both generators will produce the maximum amount of stone and then meet at a centre point. If you put them closer together, then one stone generator will interrupt the other at a closer meeting point as pistons can only push a max of 12 blocks. When you break the blocks and restart them, they should still work, but it's just that you may not get the maximum amount of stone you could get if you place them too close to each other. It may also lead to one generator pushing back the piston array of the other generator if it gets too close, so be careful.

@TheGoldenDragonmc

Thanks for the comment! What type of 'auto push' device do you mean? Would it create the stone then wait for you to harvest it before making a new set? Or the maximum amount be made and then push as soon as you mine? I'm not exactly sure about how you may want it if you can be more precise then it'd help! The wall change that occurs when creating the stone allows the pistons to push automatically until its limit. If you don't want to have to reset it after it's limit then just add an observer to pulse whenever you start breaking the blocks to reactivate the pistons.
@xscitobor1233
@xscitobor1233 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the piston would be activated waiting to push but can't because the limit has been reached that way when one is mined it can start again instantly Witch is basically your second suggestion, would be the best way to make it work in my mind. As for your fix at the end it could work in some ways that way but it would work just as well as the first observer and not really help till the block it see's is changed so then it would be in the way and extended out to the push limit further then the rest of the machine and get in the way if your just trying to bust through.

Why does it stop when I exit a certain area
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc 6 ай бұрын
Because redstone requires chunkloading to function, just like any other game mechanic. If you're not less than a certain distance away from the machine, it will stop working to prevent lag on a larger scale. If you're not near it, it won't run. The range that the redstone will work around a player is still large, but if you're going far away people often build "chunk-loaders" which are in essence, items moving in and out of nether portals to load the chunks around it and keep redstone, farms and such still working. A good tutorial on this can be seen here kzbin.info/www/bejne/b525p398oq2JmK8si=QlbQa9jdVH3ocPIi Hopefully this helped! If you want the farm to run no matter where you are in the world, you'll need to build a chunk loader(not recommended for this farm) Otherwise, just stay within your render distance of it to keep it loaded. Just to be safe. (This type of farm is usually never left running because it stops after a while because the pistons reach their push limit (12 blocks), in this case the player is required to mine the blocks and reset the machine to keep it going)

Well, it will not effect the lag drastically if you only do one but it will help make it slightly quicker and constant if you put in 7 lava sources. It really depends on what your lava availability looks like! If you can, 7 would make it better and more constant but 1 bucket would do nearly as good without contributing to lag! Thanks for the explanation of all the concepts at the end, I don't usually see that and it helped me understand what each part was for. Appreciate the tutorial :)

Thanks for the comment Bob!!! Yes!! You've hit the nail on the head on how I try to make redstone tutorials, I really want people to understand what's happening behind the perhaps complex facade so they can reapply the mechanics in other contraptions because redstone is SERIOUSLY underrated by many. I thought this generator was overlooked too much and I wanted to simplify it to this! I'm soo glad that you found this as helpful and took the time to comment because now I am sure I'm helping some people out there if any ;) I hope I can continue with these redstone videos but let me know if you want anything to be built in particular! I won't mind giving it a go if it's something I haven't made before! Because what you need other people will also need! Thanks again for the support :)

@@elanglois4 they are called target blocks, they were released in 1.16 so as long as you are after that it should be fine

The target blocks are used to redirect the redstone to the block and so powering the pistons, you can still do it other ways but this is a much simpler method

So this only works in creative?
@TheGoldenDragonmc
@TheGoldenDragonmc 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. If your referring to the fact that I did all this in creative then the reason why I did this is so it is easier for me to explain by flying around and showing you how it works and functions. It also saves a lot of time better used in different parts of the video.

No problem, I don't have a dedicated tutorial on a sculk farm but I can link you to a good one created by pixlriffs who uses a similar design with the stone generator. But you can ignore that if you have used my version and focus on how he uses the spawner/mobs and a catalyst to create a sculk farm - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXPZh4dqq9Nnm9U I hope this helps, if you have any other questions then feel free to ask!

@@cube-nite Wattles is a great, well known youtuber as well! His design is just as good, he may be a bit too fast in terms of explanations and stuff if its your first time (that's why I recommend pixlriffs) but see what suits you best! (Really, any reputable creator's version would work) . And thank you for appreciating the video!! :)

@@TheGoldenDragonmc Uh oh. I regret not making my comment clearer. What I had meant to convey was if Wattle's SCULK farm pairs with your stone farm.
