Would work better with an iron core in the middle of the coils.... Maybe just cut a nail and wrap coil around that. Could then use some apoxy and coat the coils and core to hold it and protect it. Thanks for video. I'm gonna make one.

Can you explain why it would work better with an iron core?

@@nico-broo Using an iron core inductor instead of a copper air coil in your AC current detector can improve its performance for several reasons: Increased Inductance: Iron has a higher magnetic permeability than air or copper, which means it can store more magnetic energy per unit volume. This results in a higher inductance when you use an iron core. A higher inductance can make your AC current detector more sensitive to changes in current. Improved Magnetic Coupling: An iron core can better concentrate and direct the magnetic field generated by the current passing through the coil. This improved magnetic coupling between the coil and the AC current you're trying to detect enhances the detector's efficiency and sensitivity. Reduced Eddy Currents: Iron cores are designed to minimize eddy currents, which can be induced in the conductor material due to the changing magnetic field. Eddy currents can dissipate energy and reduce the efficiency of the detector. By using an iron core, you can minimize these losses. Higher Q-Factor: The quality factor (Q-factor) of an inductor measures its efficiency and selectivity in tuning to a specific frequency. Iron cores typically have a higher Q-factor compared to air coils, making them better suited for tuning to the desired AC frequency. Improved Signal-to-Noise Ratio: With higher inductance and better magnetic coupling, an iron core can provide a stronger signal in relation to any noise or interference in the environment, resulting in a better signal-to-noise ratio for your AC current detector.

@@nico-brooA bit late, but it's bc this works on a concept called capacitive coupling. So it's basically treating both those things like an an antenna/receiver. An iron core, iron being a magnetic element, helps detect the electromagnetic waves elites by the cable bc it's AC(it makes like a wave and it emmits EM radiation). Same idea as with transformers

Very good circuit but it is not working to trace consealed wire in side the wall. It is working if I use it on the wire outside the wall. Secondly can I use BC 547 transistor instead of C945 Anil Kumar Goel
