I remember when my Sun was 2. Now she is 18. Maturity level doesn’t go up LOL! It’s amazing how she can still learn stuff though. She learned to target and turn around recently. Mango is adorable!

I put a short perch in every cage door. My birds learn easily that they have to go to that perch to come out, go in and it’s where they have to go to get their treats during the day. I got 3 birds for my birthday last year and it took less than a day to teach them perch.

My little green cheak used to bute and attack anytime i was near, we made drastic changes to literally everything, food, sleep, cage layout, and i spend time with him every day. Now he steps up, he flies to me on command, and we have started learning spin plus he lets me give him scritchs. All the stuff we do i learnt from bird tricks and they work wonders.

This was awesome! I so need to teach my bird stationing. And I need to make sure my Blessed womanhood does not queue my birds before I Q them. Also I’ve always wondered if the twitching was OK. It seems like the bird is just anxious to go back to her mom. Thank you so much for all this information!

Good morning this is Bob in Connecticut and I do have 2 conures. Yes my green cheek his name is Spidey he is always on me I don’t cage any of the birds but I do have an albino cockatiel that does not have the power of flight right now so when I go to sleep I cage him. Spidey goes in the medicine cabinet on the top shelf in the bathroom when he goes to sleep otherwise he is always on my shoulder all day long he likes to bite on my ears and my neck. He is my best friend. Yes he is clingy but I love that.

You guys are so crazy and awesome and funny and educational to watch.💖 I adore parrots but don't have any at the moments (used to have, quite some time ago, did everything wrong😔).So your videos kinda make that up for me. And I'm learning so much for, who knows, one day of having a birb friend in my life again.🤞

This is very formative. I have similar issues but my bird won't fly yet even though he's about approx 20 years old, he was permanently caged before I got him 1 year ago... he screams for me if I'm not in view like separation anxiety issues...🤦♀️ Thanks again birdtricks for more great info!!😊

Bruh this is my problem with my sun conure sally. She clings to me like a baby it’s cute but it can be annoying and dangerous like when I’m cooking. She follows me to take a shower, a nap, when I gotta use the bathroom etc.And she doesn’t like when other people come near me, she becomes aggressive. She’s 2 years old. I wish you guys would come to the Bronx.

Hey Jamie and Dave love your videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to get your conure to stop biting. I have a 7 month old male pinnapple green cheek and he’s usually the sweetest except when I have my nails done. Even if they are just painted he gets really angry and bites super hard I’m not sure what to do. Help please!
@mimthyss2 жыл бұрын
Don't get your nails done.. hehe. Jokes aside, is it the colour of them? Or does he still do it with clear coloured nails? Does he bite them when you're trying to pet him with them or when you ask him to step up? Is he scared of them? Maybe you could do some desensitisation training with fake nails that aren't attached to your hand, rewarding for calm and slowly expanding his comfort zone in small approximations, sort of like in this video! Except you'd be slowly putting them closer rather than further away, haha. Or, if he ONLY reacts to them when they're on your hand (but shows no reaction when they're unattached, i.e. just laying on the table near him) then you could still cautiously try the same thing. Usually bites only happen when we aren't reading their body language and signals.. for the bird, their subtle communication probably feels super obvious so they get frustrated when we seem to ignore them, but we just have to pay close attention to see it and ensure they don't feel the need to bite!

My conure is 3 months and I taught him how to do this I’m just having trouble getting him to stay there for a long period of time, I like the bird bubble idea I understood what that meant to such a literal sense 🤣🤣 and my girlfriend is “gifted” I’m gonna tell her not to reward him if he lands on that third shoulder 🤣🤣

I really really would like to teach my caique to station.You know how crazy caiques are Jamie, right? Lol!I have 2 caiques, a 5 year old male (Ozzy)and a 5 month old baby female (Lola) Ozzy is very hyper at times, like right now. He keeps flying on to my head, very roughly. Or he's very clingy. Is it ok to fly them away yourself with a little push? I do that when he won't leave me alone. I really got a lot out of your video. Thank you. I plan on starting to work on this tomorrow. I hope I can be consistent. I deal with pain so it's hard everyday.❤️
@michelehemlokhexwhite43102 жыл бұрын
I deal with chronic pain, too. I have a play stand on my bed so I can train sitting or laying down, and my parrot can station close to me on the bed. Good luck with your caiques. 5 mins training twice a day really makes a difference ❤🐦
@laweaver50502 жыл бұрын
@@michelehemlokhexwhite4310 Thank you for that tip Michele! ❣️ 5 min twice a day sounds reasonable! I think I'll do that 😃sorry you deal with chronic pain too. Do you have fibro with your issues? What kind of bird or birds do you have?
@michelehemlokhexwhite43102 жыл бұрын
@@laweaver5050 I have chronic nerve pain, peripheral neuropathy and trigeminal neuralgia from lightning strike. My mum had fibromyalgia, though :/ I have a hahn's/sun cross. 5-10min training thrice a day and a daily 20min walk on her harness for the 3months I've had her, and she now works party gigs with me. A little consistent training goes a long way! Nice to hear back from you. Look after yourself and your caiques! ❤🐦
@michelehemlokhexwhite43102 жыл бұрын
Re pushing them away with your hand.... I do this for boomerang flights, and recall straight back, but to get a bit of peace, I'd be encouraging stationing and targeting away to a play area, like a foraging setup, a tree with toys or play stand. If you regularly rotate toys, and make or buy new ones, it helps keep their attention. I pick up fallen bark on my walks, bake it in the oven at 60c for awhile to remove pests and pathogens, and mine will shred that for hours.

O my Lanta the third shoulder. Y'all crack me up!! Soo 🤣 funny.. But sad and true and not all what's it cracked up to be...lol ..js.. . Tricky cuz that's where Gyro REALLY wants to be, most the time if I let her, fun only once or twice, and so I phase that out any time I can and now Gyro loves to destroy a toilet paper roll, when I have had enough US time and I only buy Birdy safe TP. 💞 She won't use a toy. She thinks they are scary.

It is way easier to train a parrot with treats that eats solid food, MUCH harder when your parrot is a pollen and nectar eater (Black-Capped Lori).

Less clingy? I wish mine were a little more clingy, lol! It's been ~1 year and while he does like to scream for attention, he does not love hanging out with us too much. He will come and sit on my dad a bit lately, and I finally got him to land on my arm for the first time recently (I'm not home often, sadly), but hey ho. With more time and patience hopefully he'll continue warming up to us.. even despite my dads, hmm, less than ideal methods and ideas on bird training 😅
