How to make a curved modern bench. Woodworking.

In this video we will show how to make a curved bench from beech and maple. We will show this woodworking process step by step. First of all, we will choose beech so that it has no knots. Beech wood in section has a simple structure with scattered small pores and is pale blue or light pink-brown, often with a brown core (in old trees) and mineral stripes.To obtain a beautiful wood texture, trees are impregnated at the root with organic and inorganic dyes. At the same time, it acquires resistance to decay and grows stronger. The wood is well polished, stained and tinted. Surface treatment can be carried out by all conventional means.
First, we will cut the beech into 8-9mm thick lamellas. After that, we profile on a Dewalt thickness gauge. We will then cut the into two sizes using a Festool Kapex. And this is 450mm - this is for the legs and 1600 for the top of the bench.
To glue all the parts, we need a lot of clamps and patience.)))
In advance, we will prepare a template from the board to bend the lamellas after gluing.
For the top we use maple, in which we cut holes of different diameters.
Cover with oil wax from osmo. Pleasant viewing.

That bench is amazing, its a work of art. Speaking of art, it actually looks like a bench you might see in say, an art gallery or museum? I bet people would stand and look at it like it was an art installation too! Not enough clamps he says ... You guys work like a well oiled machine, one mind, 4 hands! And the ingenuity of making sexy curves without heat/steam is brilliant. I've seen it done with loads of slices in the wood, with some removed but this way is more sturdy and solid. Nice looking bench!!! I have a tip for you….. swap out the brown paper when doing glue ups. Get some vinyl backing paper. This has a silicone backing and glue will not stick to it. Go to your local sign shop and ask if you can have some of their vinyl backing paper. It can’t be recycled so they will probably be happy to give it away. I’ve found it’s by far the best thing for glue ups. Let the glue drips dry and they just flake off it. Smeared glue will just wipe away

I’m always up for a clever idea for our shop. We have made bespoke furniture, cabinetry and restored a very narrow 13th C religious furnishings for a private customer for many years and as time passes I discover one thing….long time customers are very sensitive to price increases (which is a frustratingly frequent thing right now) so anything that can save money on the periphery and help stabilize prices can help us keep a 40+ year customer!
