There can never be enough video like this for new folks starting out. Nice to see something being shown without the need for the high priced equipment that most new folks don't have. I'd personally like to see more in the realm of minimal equipment levels. Nice work and worth a sub.

Starting out? Starting out means a circular saw, a power drill, a square and ruler, and a hammer. When you have gotten your shop to the level of table saw fitted in to a modular stand, you are past the point of just starting out. A table saw or miter saw are all major investments to your wood working shop. And when you have more wood clamps than what is on the shelf at your building supply store ... yeah you are past the starting out phase. This project may seem like a quick easy project with minimal tools, but the project ease is a direct result of having a full carpenter shop of tools.
@MichaelAlthauser
@MichaelAlthauser Жыл бұрын
@@superdave8248 And as a new woodworker, I don't know if I could pull this off with just a circular saw and the other tools you listed. I don't trust myself to be able to get straight cuts with a circular saw and I *definitely* can't afford a table saw.

These instructions were great, super simple, and the boards were a lot of fun to make. I like the thin stripe over the thick ones in the packaged kits because they look more elegant. I couldn't find the same widths, but I had extra lengths of 3/4" leftovers, so I just added them up to 8" across for the thinner main boards. A+ would do again. These are good travel-friendly gifts, too - they pack away easily!

@onethousandwords
@onethousandwords 7 ай бұрын
For clarity, what kind of cutting boards do you prefer? Long grain makes sense because the knife marks from use will be against the grain. Is there another simple style like this you'd recommend trying?
@dj3114
@dj3114 7 ай бұрын
@@onethousandwords I made a few of these and gave them away but one. I admit that they are nice and work well and the recipients liked them. That said, I've made only edge grain prior but you are right that it's more involved and takes more wood. Knife marks are the same regardless, but the edge boards are much thicker (about 1.25").
