In this episode I show you the first morning of my workshop in Paris where we shoot the roof of Paris from the top of Notre Dame with a very boring light !

I feel like just combining the last 2 photos would make an even better final result! Having the lights vanish from right to left would look amazing

Nice idea. I shall try that. Also will test if using a gradient on the masks gives an even smother transition than the blur.....

ive wanted to try something like this before but was going to uae the gradient mask. Doing it with a blur seems so much simpler. Ill try it out next week but just use a tripod. Also doing it with more shots would look even better.

Next time you fly to L.A., take a stop-over in Chicago on a Monday. Make sure you have plenty of time between flights to include sunset. Then go to the John Hancock Tower and go to the 90th floor observation deck. BRING THE TRIPOD! Monday nights, they allow tripods. :)

Very interesting technique, and an amazing result. Something I definitely want to try in San Francisco and in Budapest. Your summary says it's from the top of Notre Dame, but this is the tour Montparnasse, as you said in the beginning in the video.

Thats awesome, I didn't realize that you could place the guides that easily by percentages. I'm also wondering if instead of using a Gaussian blur how a linear gradient would look on the mask.
@AdamDooley
@AdamDooley 7 жыл бұрын
Brian Dunkel I tried it with linear masks of the Chicago skyline. I do not think it works so well compared to this technique. I think this is far more pleasing and reveals less differences between the layers. (people and things that move, for instance.)

One tip, at least this is what I would try: adjust the temperature first much more and then increase the blur in the mask much more. I believe this could give a more interesting, more pleasing result.

Hey! Really cool video, and I'd like to try to make my own time slice picture. How did you adjust the camera settings during the shooting? Is it OK if I just leave it in P mode, and trust the settings to my camera? (Nikon d5100) Thanks.

Yes. I started a couple projects that are exactly this. Find a spot that doesn't get alot of traffic that has a very easy to find marking. I set my tripod up on a boulder then scratched around the feet onto the rock so I know where the tripod goes. Few more weeks and it'll be time for the fall shots
