@Lukos00366 жыл бұрын
Instead of dowels you could put a couple steep ramps at the top and in the middle angling in opposite directions and cover them in velvet or some other rough material. The velvet will grip the dice a little and cause them to roll, randomizing them without having to drill holes in the side of your pretty tower and dampen the noise so it isn't making a loud rattle whenever you use your tower.
@WickedMakers6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, good idea for sure! It’s definitely noisy... Thanks for watching!! 🤘🏼😃

I designed and 3d printed my own dice tower once, but I made the area at the bottom too short, so if you use heavier dice in it they have a tendancy to bounce back inside the tower. Revised version has a larger area at the bottom, and a little step up into the tower.

Really cool build! One minor bit of constructive criticism from a DM though: You shouldn't have glued the cage on to the tower. It makes transportation kind of a pain. It would have been better if the cage was completely separate (maybe with an added felt-lined base and a fourth wall so that it could function as a dice tray, or attached with some kind of hinge so that the tower can lay in the cage when not in use.

First up, I don't play any dice games, this just came up in my recommended feed. Secondly, this looks fantastic. I had no idea this was even a thing. But I have one question for you. Why did you use wood for the dowel and then plug the hole with brass and not just use brass as the dowel? I would have thought it would add some nice sound too. Even if you used some wood and some brass to have like a wind chime effect when you roll the dice. Just a thought. Great looking project and fun video to watch. Cheers
@WickedMakers4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out! Thinking back on the build, it was most likely because the brass is a lot heavier and we might have thought it wouldn't stay in place easily. Jay and Jamie, I just ran across your video last week and I was impressed. I decided to make two of these as gifts. I see that you installed a small dowel in the lower corner to prevent dice from getting stuck, but I really don't know where to place it. I also am placing a piece of wood in the corner to redirect the dowel. Any help can you give me in placement? Or is it just a risk we all have to accept in randomness?
@WickedMakers4 жыл бұрын
There’s basically a small nook on the side of each door that, in our case, was perfectly dice sized. We put the dowel straight in from the sides and cut it to fill that little space exactly (about 3/4”). The idea is the dice “should” bounce off it and go towards the center. That being said, things still occasionally get stuck. We’re all at the mercy of randomness. 😄
@mikejohnson98504 жыл бұрын
I made the dowel 5/8, but decided to make the doorway larger since this tower shouldn't be a roach motel. Thanks again. Do you work with 3d printing and if so would you do a video on that for newbies

There are two little dowels on the inside of the doors that push them out. There’s a pic linked in the pinned comment. 😃

This is truly awesome! The only thing I would have added is a bottom with felt. Anyone would be honored to have this

Nice! One suggestion: hinge the courtyard area so that you can fold up the tower when not in use.

That is a really good idea. Noted for next time! As cool as this thing is...it's massive. Folding up the front would be helpful.

Cool! Have you seen Wyrmwood's stuff? Their magnet system is so nice.
