It's finally here! It's been more than a year but the How To Make A Disc Wheel Tutorial is up and running!
And sorry but I had to delete the last version of this video because the subtitles in it were too small.
This video will be demonstrating how to make your very own disc wheel! Just an alternative for people who want the disc 'look' without the $1000+ cost! It will tell you how to make it and what you'll need in order to make it.
Here's the link to the video I made that teaches you how to do the construction theorems that I use in order to make my disc.
• Geometry Constructions...
Hope you guys enjoy the video! Be sure to leave a comment or shoot me a message if you have any questions!

You know, I'm gonna be honest, at first I thought this concept was stupid, but, as I watched more, it's actually really creative. I work with rolls of sheet metal which I cut into huge circles all the time, so I'm gonna try to make some out of sheet metal

Don't understand why so many people leave meaningless negative comments. If u don't like the video, stop watching it. It may not be practical, but the creativity, effort, and engineering behind it is more than notable and appreciated. Cool stuff man. Keep it up.

I'd like to add to the instructional, if I may. Just finished my 26" wheel and the results were sweet. When cutting out the "pizza slice" that allows the disc to form its conical shape, use the equation (everything is in degrees) D=360-{360sqrt[1-H/R]^2} will give you the degree of angle from the origin for your slice. D is the desired angle, H is the height from the rim to the hub, and R is the radius of the disc (I used the ETRTO when constructing mine, 559mm)

Really cool video dude, I mean I would probably skip all of the geometry and have a mediocre result but with all the theorems, the result is much crisper looking. This was like 1/2 Math + 1/4 Arts and Crafts + 1/4 Bicycling -- really cool

Thanks for the great tutorial. I can't wait to hear what that freehub body sounds like with my new discs. I doubt anything will ever sound as cool as a Tioga Tension Disc, but maybe I can get close (I'm doing a Tomac replica bike with drop handlebars and barend sifters on a budget. I found the Tioga stickers on ebay, and I'm going to hand paint the geodesic webbing on a background of white. I can't wait! Great saturday afternoon project. Thanks for posting. Cheers!

Discs are more aero than spokes, and a disc clad rear wheel is actually better than spokes in a cross wind. Making them from fluted polypropylene sheet 2mm equal very light discs. These flex a bit but work really well. Fitted my own to my mtb front and rear.

@jdawg4334 Awesome video, it's a nice project if you have the material and time to do it. I always wanted discs on my bike since I was kid and I saw the rest of the kids in my neighborhood sporting them. I always wondered what if I used card board, which seems to work well, I had a idea to help with the weather proofing of the card board. I forgot the name of this product, but what it does is make a hard shell over what ever you spray/brush it on and it's water proof. Also try using resin!
@jdawg4334

Well, the frame comes with a 1 1/8" steer tube and probably uses an internal headset. The BB will be standard 68mm English threaded, probably wana use a 108mm spindle or something, I'm too sure on that one, it depends on the cranks. Just get Omniums. And lockrings and cogs are all universally sized as far as I'm concerned. I'm pretty sure that the Resist hub is like, BMX crap, so idk if that's different. And as far as hubs, you just need a 100mm axel front and a 120mm axel rear.

No. I believe that I said that you use the compass to measure the width of the hub flange (which is bigger than the cog in my case) to then use that measurement to determine the size of the center whole of the covers. If your hub flange is smaller than your cog, then measure the width of the cog with the compass to determine the size of the center hole of the covers so that you don't have to remove the cog during installation. Make sense?
