James, I have watched hundreds of hours of tutorials! I mean this when I say you are unparalleled in your talent to illustrate the knowledge you have in this industry. Also every video you do, your passion for the music shines through which is really infectious. I really enjoy your videos and your music of course. All the best 🙏🏼

I've been making deep house and techno since the mid 90s, I went to college for audio engineering, I've worked in professional major label studios on both coasts of the US, and watching your tutorials makes me feel like an infant who knows literally nothing. Your skills, style, and ability communicate are absolutely phenomenal man, and I appreciate the effort, talent, and passion you put into this so much. I just purchased a collection of things from F9, both to support you guys and to study the great work you're producing. You've got the best stuff on KZbin for dance production, no doubt, and I've watched a hell of a lot of what's out there. Cheers mate.

That's incredibly kind Tommy, but please - you are a vital part of all this too.. There are so many things you can teach me and others as every single producer and artist forges a path completely unique from anyone else. What I love more than anything about where we all are now is we have the tools to share it - that's immensely powerful for our community. So much of what I've learnt over the years started with others, and trust me - I've made every single mistake you can imagine along the way, I want to cover this too in future videos - Just wish I had 48 hours in each day at the moment. F9 Started out as a necessity coming out of a duo ( Freemasons ) that was only going to support one person after the big successes and coincided with me becoming a father - Suddenly, life wasn't about me anymore, and I quickly realised I had no idea just how valuable the knowledge and experience I gained over those years ( and the 15 years engineering, playing and programming before success ) was to others. Now it's easily the most rewarding endeavour I've ever applied myself to. I've had my time and now I'm dedicated to helping others achieve their own success. What I was not expecting though, is finding extraordinary amounts of creative peace in the process. I only mention this here as I would actively encourage anyone reading this to consider a similar path for the future - Aim for the stars with your music, never give in until you break, Ride the tiger of success and experience it all, but then when you have had your time, be prepared to change roads and guide the next generation to a slightly improved and easier path. Trust me, it's very much a life worth living. Wishing you all the very best for your music in 2024 and thanks again for the warm words, they spur me ( and my wife, the other half of F9) onwards

@@F9Audio Beautiful sentiments, James, you REALLY are the full package, Sir, and to be able to help support F9 and the truly incredible, helpful, and inspirational work you do, is an honour. Father's Day today, here in the UK. I've requested that should my three beautiful children, (ahem, aged 26, 25 and 16, I guess “children” is kinda stretching it!!!) really wish to make their Father's Day, they might consider purchasing for me the Origins Classic House Beats and Classic Club Keys and Synths for Ableton packs. Whilst I am in no way expecting the stellar ride through success you have experienced, (God damn, I still get mad shivers at 'Uninvited') I sure do want to just make beautiful, soulful, groovy house music. Sculpting the vibes which so captivated a fresh-faced, starry eyed me, back in the late 80s, has been a long held dream of mine! Now aged 53, and having sold more sets of decks and studio set-ups when money got tight, I am finally putting back together that which makes me happy. With the help of F9, I TRULY feel I can reach for my own stars. Are Freemasons doing any live dates or touring, James? Would LOVE you to come down to Cornwall and rock some of the superb festivals we are lucky to have. I defo think Freemasons at The Eden Project would be phenomenal! Mind you, it's The annual 'Sea Shanty Week' in Falmouth this week, any chance of a “Yo Ho Ho, and a bottle of Love on my Mind remix”? Thank you, James, sincerely, for your desire to help so many, so much, with these unrivalled products and tutorials. Blessings, happiness, and light, to you and yours, Sir! 🤍

Just amazing! I have all F9 products (that are suitable for my genre and MPC Software) and absolutely love them. Starlight is just brilliant and high quality as always. One thing I noticed whenever I want to time stretch or edit any F9 sample, you can see the key and BPM is exact! I have sample packs from others which I won't name but frequently you notice they are not what they are claimed to be. Anyways thanks for the tutorial! 225 bars and 90 layers just tells me what a professional production is like! Thanks for showing all the processing and tips. I don't make this kind of music but they are all relatable of course.

Hi Igor - thank you for the question - We’re at the final stages of 3 MPC expansions for Akai which has been a major undertaking - We’ll be releasing these for DAWS later in the year also .. More TRAX Incoming so let us know what hog’s like to see ! …. Also we have our fab cross genre pack Neptune converted to DAW formats ( originally MPC ) this summer - that will be excellent !!

34:31 "Please do not go and limit every single group, or compress every single group. You just don't need to." This is advice I would have killed for 15/20 years ago. Like many, I struggled to understand compression and I think one of the common beginner mistakes is to wrongly assume that everything should have some kind of compression and eq on it. As I've got older, I've learnt that this isn't the case and, getting your starting samples and sound right eliminates the need to compress most of your tracks.
@F9Audio9 ай бұрын
Me too Tim - I must have tried every single dynamics plot possible and have always ended up coming back to the simplest ones ( so,etimes fter complete technical disasters ) and now only reach for compression when I actually need to or want to ... I was also lucky to have worked with some truly gifted engieneers across all aspects of music from recording to mastering and have discovered it really as utterly personal - finding out what you love is a journey in itself but totally worth it

Amazing video. As somebody who always struggles with arrangements, and generally falls into the trap of playing it safe, this is really handy for me, more so as I'm currently finishing off some of the tracks I started last year. The fact that you've made the parts available for download, without any signup required, is phenomenal! You're truly helping many, many producers. I've already got Starlight and EDII, but will go and purchase the Snares packs after watching this. Would you ever consider releasing a percussion pack (as in congas, bongos, timbales, etc), with loops fills and perhaps even midi clips?

We certainly will at some juncture Tim - We need a great player with lovely instruments for most of this as that means we need to travel to do so - Watch this space as we will hint at some of this soon ( looking at the beaitiful vintage Rogers Timables we just sourced )

Hello James great video! Would like to ask you about the song B.E.D - Before I leave, you made this song and then remixed it as part of freemasons, it's one of my favourite songs ever. Too bad it's not available on Spotify only on some KZbin videos..would be great to hear more about the history of this gem of a song, and any chance you would release this or remake It as a 2024 version?
@F9Audio9 ай бұрын
So B.E.D. Was myself and Gota Yashiki - Famous Japanese Drummer who worked with Simply Red in the stars era as well as being one of the most innovative drum programmers from the 90s ( he did a lot of the original Soul II Soul beats programming ) ... We then found the very excelletn Chlow Myers - the project was signed in Tokyo to BMG International which was a 1st - it didnt really hit over there, but the remix you mention was the very 1st use of the Freemasons name and part of the style the act eveolved into - It was actually just me on this mix and Russell and I used the name for our collobarations in the next year or so and everything took off. I think it all exists on a drive somewhere - let me have a dig about when i get back from London Thank you for the trip down memory Lane

DAWs should integrate parts or sections better. It would be nice to edit, mix and arrange sections independently within the same project. Think of the Octatrack parts or Roni Sizes' breakdown of his track Doing it for the masses but better.

Where can I see this? 😊
@LoveMeBack9 ай бұрын
@@sinewaves1631You find his tutorial in KZbin. He splits his track in sections then moves every section down to empty tracks. That way you can process each section differently. But you end up with a huge project and tons of plugins.

Thank you so much. Could I please ask, if you had 4 chords in the drop, in your build you would use 1 of the chords ? or 2 to 3 ? maximum 3 minimum 1 ? or no . if you could let me know thanks.
@F9Audio9 ай бұрын
There's no way I can answer this as every single piece of music is as unqiue as a finger print - run experiements - it's what I've done here and hopefully i've shown the methodology, but you must always do this by feel as being a musical style, its all about how it feels ... What I'm showing here is the end of the process, not all the tests, loops that didnt work and mistakes - Always find what moves you and works for you - chances are if you find the best for you, it works for many others too
