In this video, I will show you: How to make a DIY 12V Car Battery Charger with Max 20A charging capacity. The parts are chose from recycles except a "double 3 prong led rocker" switch. Step by step.

Why we did not take -ve power from bridge rectifier and took from center pin of transformer??? Any reason? Also there is no filter capacitor ??

Thanks you for the interested! The charger's circuit in the video requires to have functions of Half & Full Wave Rectify which you might have already known: The components in that circuit need at least (1) a transformer with a center tapped output terminals, (2) two diodes, however a Metal Bridge Rectifier used instead. MBR acts just like two diodes in the charger's circuit so no need to have "take-ve power from bridge rectifier and took from center pin of transformer" as you indicated. The other reasons for using a MBR were the better cooling and convenience at the time the video produced. Indeed, it is not necessary to have a capacitor for Car Battery Charger however you could add one if you wish. Cheers!

Does it stop charging when battary is full

No - Technically there is no a component or circuit to cut the power off so theoretical speaking: It is still charging when battery is full, however in practical although the power is still on, charging current into battery is almost zero which can be seen by the Charger's Ampere Meter when battery is full. strange connection of the bridge rectifier, why not use one 13v terminal of the transformer and the other terminal to the (-) of the rectifier?

The bridge's connection appears strange however it represents two diodes for the Full Wave Rectifier connection in this circuit, the reasons chosen a Metal Bridge in this case are for the better cooling & convenience at time the video produced. Thanks for your interested!

Thanks for your interested! Well, as your intention: P = 12V x 5A = 60W for the DC power to charge a battery, the 14V output from a transformer can be chosen either center tapped or not. In this case, a transformer's core area can be designed as S = 10cm2 approximately. I leave to you for the rest of the details. Enjoy & good luck. 👍

why bridge rectifier 50 amp has only ac wire from transformer and the + output, no - shown on diagram ????? mistake ? or centre tap 0 is used, why ?

No mistake ! 👍 You might have known already: There are three type of rectifiers circuits by using a transformer (I am not talking about SMPS circuits) (a) Half Wave Rectifier Circuit, (b) Full Wave Rectifier Circuit, (c) Bridge Rectifier Circuit. Although a Bridge Rectifier was used in the video, it was not a (c) circuit, it was (b) FULL WAVE RECTIFIER CIRCUIT. A Bridge Rectifier has been acting just like two diodes for the (b) circuit. The reason a Bridge Rectifier used was for the convenience at the time this video produced. Thanks for your question and interested !

How to wire the boost charging

Thanks for your interested! Okay let me explain you in the simplest circuit. You must have a transformer with a center tapped output. Suppose the transformer's output are 2 x 13 V with a center tapped terminal: Name the one of 13 V terminal as and the other 13 V terminal as . Connecting to the one of pins from on/off switch, then connecting the other pin from on/off switch to the one of AC pins from Metal Bridge Rectifier. Connecting to the other AC pin from Metal Bridge Rectifier. Leave Negative pin from Metal Bridge Rectifier as it is (not connecting any thing). The positive pin from Metal Bridge Rectifier as Positive (+) DC 12 V output, the center tapped terminal as the output Negative (-) or ground. When on/off switch is on, it is boost charging. When on/off switch is off, it is normal charging. Good luck!
