ty for the video. simple and easy technique. the only thing i don't like is using felts for the pieces of the rug. as a pet owner that fabric catches every last piece of pet hair and it is nearly impossible to vacuum it out lol

I'm hoping to make a bath mat next, but will I be able to machine wash it? Not sure if the hessian would stand up to the washing machine.
@Raggedlifedesigns Жыл бұрын
Hi Rod, hessian can be washed in the washing machine but doesn’t stand up well to not drying out fully (as the hessian is a natural fibre, it will rot). I don’t wash mine very frequently and dry them outside on a sunny blustery day. Hope that helps!

Thank you Elspeth. I had a spring tool as I had done some rag rugging a while ago and had forgotten how to use it so your video reminded me. When I made a rag rug years ago with torn up sheets I found it frayed and when walking on the threads came out (I gave it to a charity shop) - is this something that just happens with sheets?

Hi Jean, some fabrics ravel (fall apart and shed) quite a lot. I tend to avoid using too many of them in my rugs for precisely the reason you mention above. It sounds to me like it was a cotton / poly blend (these shed more than pure cotton). You can cut cotton on the bias (diagonal to the weave) to reduce fraying and shedding. Plus, I always vacuum my rugs when they're done to take any loose fibres off. I do hope that helps, Elspeth

where can i buy the hessian to make a rug pls
@Raggedlifedesigns2 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, apologies for the slow reply. What country are you in? Generally you can buy it from anywhere that sells fabric for upholstery. Equally, you can buy pre-hemmed hessian on our Ragged Life website - we ship to most countries globally. Hope that helps, Elspeth

How do you wash them?
@Raggedlifedesigns5 жыл бұрын
Jeanette Young Hi Jeanette, put them in a pillow case in the washing machine to wash them. Don’t tumble dry them. You may find this blog post I’ve written useful: raggedlifeblog.com/how-to-clean-a-rag-rug/
