I wanted to show everyone how I make my fire staves. This is a Carbon Fiber Contact Fire Staff that is doubled-wicked in Kevlar.
I purchased all of my staff materials from dark-monk.com/. I am not endorsed by this company but I do like their products!
Hope you enjoy,
Gypzi

Glad I came across this as will help me with my idea of a split staff that can act as hammers. That idea I haven't seen but got my thoughts and all in order.

Ey man what a good tutorial. I would like to ask you whtehr these materials would withstand body weight to do cartwheels and monkey climbing, without bending.
@liongypzi
@liongypzi Жыл бұрын
Yes, with the thickness of the carbon fiber, I can successfully say It can hold my body weight. I do cartwheels on this fire staff all the time-full body weight-with no trouble. I tried monkey climbing on it, but it seems too rigid for that pressure. Even more difficult when on fire! lol

1st off! Your an amazing artist. Thank you for sharing your craft. Your spinning videos are awesome. Your flow is so beautiful. With that said I have a question. How did you chose the length of your staff?
@liongypzi
@liongypzi 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you so much!! A good rule of thumb (that I go by) for contact staff/bo staff heights is choosing a stick that reaches throat (Adams apple) or chin height. With that said, different staff lengths all have their advantages. Short, medium, or long staffs can be fun to play with. Experiment with options (if you can) and find what one works with your style. Look at them like golf clubs, each one serving a specific intent. I hope that helped. I apologize for the late reply. Stay saucy my friend! 🙏🏽 😎

Thx for sharing! Could you please tell me the inner diameter of the carbon staff?
@liongypzi
@liongypzi Жыл бұрын
The carbon fiber is 7/8 in diameter. Dark Monk custom fits their (interior and exterior) metal sheath to each carbon fiber staff. I don't know the diameter of the metal sheaths.

Hey man! Did you go with wood screws or sheet metal screw? Also what size drill bit for the pilot hole?
@liongypzi

I used metal screws. Lath screws specifically. The bit size I used for the piolt holes was 3/16

Hey there! Thanks for this informative video! My partner and I started getting supplies to make staves a few months ago but we’re waiting on dark monk to get their carbon fiber tubing back in stock. We couldn’t find them anywhere else. Now is the time! What size are the wooden dowels and what’s a good place to get them? I’m assuming 7/8 but just want to make sure. Thanks again
@liongypzi
@liongypzi 2 жыл бұрын
Since the carbon fiber is 7/8, The dowels tend to be a little smaller, then 7/8 diameter. Tbh I looked for dowels to fit the carbon fiber and found dark monk has theirs cut to size. I haven't found anyone else who has the same cut size

This is an amazing start thank you so much!!! I have a question. Could you use the same technique to make a fire sword? I plan to make a short sword with a chain on it.
@liongypzi
@liongypzi 10 ай бұрын
Thank you. I think this technique is the poor mans technique. I think for a fire sword the braiding technique would be more ideal.

Is there possible without carbon fiber to make fire staff

how this work with impacts? you think this technique could work for a fire acrostaff?
@liongypzi
@liongypzi 10 ай бұрын
the size and diameter makes this staff durable and can support my body weight when I do acrostaff cartwheels on it. With that said, it is a stiff staff (not flexible) and the flames can get in the way. loll You will have to get creative in order not to get burned. Good luck

Hey. Alot of the ones that you can buy has braided kevlar wick instead of normal as it burns more intensly and works way longer. Is it posible to braid kevlar at home and do you know how to braid it
@liongypzi
@liongypzi 10 ай бұрын
Good question. I do not know how to braid but that is a good alternative. The reason I don't braid on this staff is bc i put my body weight on it (while performing) and do not want the kevlar to get ruined (since the braiding covers the tip of the staff).

Sorry I could have made that much clearer. I used clear masking tape to tape the wick to the exterior metal sheath (2:16). You can use any tape you prefer.
