This is so fun! My 8 year old grandson will love it, if I can succeed in making one (or more). Thanks so much for this tutorial. It can't have been easy, with your hand not all healed yet. God bless your recovery.

Thank you so much for sharing this how to - even with your poor hand struggles! That was actually inspiring to me since I have been struggling with carpal tunnel and some nerve damage. You showed me I can - I just need to persist and adapt! What a blessing! Thank you! :)

I've reviewed many diy flying butterfly surprise but I feel yours is the easiest (after you get that rubber band on the safety pin) with items that are readily available. Thank you so much - I am going to use them in an exploding box for a 50th wedding anniversary.

would it be easier to start at the safety pin with the elastic? It seems it would go into the hair pin end easier secondly

Hi Tina - just ordered the butterfly pack and can't wait to try this out. I must tell you I was in pain watching you add the rubber band to the top of the safety pin. Pull/stretch the rubber band on both sides of the opening and pull up, works immediately and every time. Hope you try this.

thank you so much I was looking for this exact video. I had ordered some of the online ones but they are so big and heavy that they really don't fly as well as they show them on the internet. These are smaller, lighter and more attractive. Thanks again

Maybe if you hooked the rubber band on the hook end of the pin first, then feed it through the bottom of the pin.
