My custom mask has the blue chevrons, and then a red forehead one. The straps are leather, and we're specifically fitted to my head. I painted it tan, and put black paint all around the breath holes.

Using this method on a spirit store mask and I found RUSTOLEUM satin heirloom white is a PERFECT base coat! Nice off-white and its not gloss or matte. Just right!

great vid dude. i havent gotten my plastic mask yet to work on and i just wanted to know how to take the straps off before painting. do you drill it off or do you just take them off and how would you put them back on. im new to this thing so i dont wanna screw it up lol. btw keep up the great content :)

Thanks! The straps just snap on and off. You'll see when you get the mask, you just pull them off or pop them back on with your thumb. I only drill out the ones that aren't used when the movie version I'm trying to copy doesn't have those on there. Thanks for watching!

oh and one more question. if you paint the chevrons on whats more affective and least likely for me to mess up. wet paper or painter tape and do you have to use multiple coats on the red triangle. im making the part 6 mask and im afraid that the paint will bleed through if i use wet paper so what would you recommend. thanks for helping me out dude im new to this so i wanna get everything right :)

I actually love that 97 cent Sherwin Williams made spray paint for lots of different stuff because it's so cheap and dries quickly. Their white paint doesn't always cover over certain background colors , but other colors are fine. It's not the best in the world, but again it's so cheap, dries so fast, and the color Is always exactly as show on the cap. I once bought some blaze orange paint and for some reason it only had 2 sports of blaze orange in it, the rest was a rusty brown-ish dark pumpkin color. Turns out the shit was made in Canada. BTW another great job 👍

Do you sand and paint the insides of these masks, too? If so, how do you keep the paint from chipping once rubbed against the edges of the latex under-mask and what? Even after sanding and painting AND coating with a matte sealant, the paint still seems to want to chip when the mask is put over a latex mask and taken off. Any thoughts? THANKS! hi from Scotland, I have 5 of these made in china Jason masks, my part 5 was originally plain white and I actually used nail varnish for the chevrons. but my part 5 is practically spotless and needs weathered up badly. Great work on by the way sir

I've kinda wanted to put together a Roy/Fake Jason costume. Since I already have blue coveralls from my Michael Myers costume, I'd need little else than a Roy hockey mask to achieve the look. Funny thing about Roy - In the original F13 movie, the counselor Annie walks through a town on her way to Camp Crystal Lake, and passes a building with a red exterior. That building is named Roy's Hall, and has since been painted blue. Coincidence? Maybe. And in recent years, Roy's Hall holds screenings of the original film every Friday the 13th.

How? These masks that he uses are cheap chinese blanks, he did not make them himself, he only paints them. The "über Jason" mask is completely different and since it does not resemble a hockey mask at all, he can not make it.

I get them with Krylon too. Honestly I rub down every layer of spray paint with plain paper on all my masks, I just don't inlude that in most of my videos since it isn't a huge deal.

What kind of clear coat did you use. I've been using Kyrlon clear coat on my mask orders but its not giving me the shine that I want.

I use Krylon Clear Gloss. I still haven't mastered it either. I botched a couple masks when I tried to do heavy coats and it started running, so that's why I do light coats so many times until I see the shine. Let me know if you figure out a better method.

You're right the primer is technically optional. As long as the mask is well sanded it probably doesn't need it, BUT I like the added insurance of sanding the mask + priming it to be certain my basecoat sticks. Plus I like the white as a painted surface instead of plastic, and every layer of paints/primers/clear coat you add just give the mask a bit more weight which is cool. Personal preference though!

I've noticed in some screenshots of the Part 5 mask, there seems to be some kind of evidence that indicates that a chevron was once on the forehead part of the mask. What would be the best way to replicate that effect?

Pairjira you add the first layer of weathering, you cut out a tiny triangle out of tape, stick the tape to the forehead, then do the rain and mud splatter around the mask, then peel off the tape, it’ll leave that area cleaner than the rest of the mask
