serendipidus1 Hey I’m sorry I wish I could help but I’m not sure how that even looks :( maybe you can turn the skirt when you wear it so the straight part isn’t at the front. But a lot of skirts have a straight check and they look nice.

Good job! Flannel - all woven fabrics - should first be washed to allow for shrinkage. Before hemming, hang overnight for threads to relax. For even hem, grade up to 1/4" (or as much as needed) on back hem - try skirt on, gently smooth out fabric over derierre to even it out w/front hem to prevent it from being shorter.
@xxo88885 жыл бұрын
Haha great tips! I'll need to give myself a good 2 inches on the back hem to get then even 😅

Very nice! To prevent changing the horizontal/vertical direction of tartan fabric, measure at fold in the center of the fabric, then determine desired width & length of half circle, full, quarter or 3/4 using same circle method. Be sure to add seam allowance before cutting in this method ...
@thehomesteadmidwife3781Ай бұрын
So fold the fabric in half. And where the fold is, go to the center and make my circle from there ?

@xanadu1jw7 жыл бұрын
No, as the video creator says above, you measure your waist and divide it by pi which is 3.14 adding an inch for seam allowance.

Please tell me, do you wear the zipper on the side or on the back? I made lots of this skirts but the lines on the front of the skirt are always perpendicular or parallel to the front, not oblique (I sew the zipper on the back). Thank you! :)
@throughtheenchantedportal66179 жыл бұрын
When you say "for me that's 14" does that mean measuring flat across the waistline of something you own that fits you well? I see that you wound up measuring 9 inches from the corner which would be half of 14 plus 2 inches. You're not saying half of the waist measurement when measured "around" your waist right? My daughter and I found this out the hard way by measuring around the waist and dividing that in half. It came out way too big. Nice video though. I like how you talk us through it instead of just having music.
@Oaishe9 жыл бұрын
+Through the Enchanted Portal My apologies, I guess that was confusing. I found out you should take your waist measurement and divide it by 3.14 for a circle skirt to find the corner measurement and I just leave an inch on the opening side for seam allowance. But this skirt still fits me well, it just doesn't sit on the smallest part of my waist, which I don't really mind. Thanks though and sorry for the super late reply. Happy sewing!
@throughtheenchantedportal66179 жыл бұрын
No problem, thanks for the reply! We may give this a try again sometime. :)
@darussianping61 Жыл бұрын
I think your skirt is shorter at the back than the front. Tip: when adjusting length of a skirt put it on and let somebody else measure it for you.

HI, I noticed that when you said for your waist "the measurement is14", but when you cut the waist you place the tape at 9". Did I miss something?
@Oaishe3 жыл бұрын
Hi! So when I place the tape at 9 on the sides, the across measurements become 14! Also sorry this is a pretty old video- there’s an equation you can actually use to figure out where to cut. Just take your waist measurements+ seam allowance and divide it by 3.14 and that should tell you the radius of the circle opening. So for me the radius was 9
@pr3ttynblack20119 жыл бұрын
Typo:how did you fold the fabric
@adelegiard9 жыл бұрын
Since it is a half circle skirt, she folded her fabric once (if you wanted to make a full circle skirt you would fold it twice) :)
@Leeseeange9 жыл бұрын
+Hakimah Luvdadeen For a longer skirt use 45" fabric and about 2.5 yards. Get twice your skirt length plus 6"; this allows more fabric for a 4" hem instead of a turned hem. The skirt will drape better because of the extra weight in the hem. 2.5 yards is for my 34" maxi. You could use the extra to make a cute patch pocket for your phone I guess. I really like her plaid!
@crimeariver83704 жыл бұрын
I'm still confused how she made the waist. Does anybody know? What's the equation? I want to learn.
@stupidgirl012343 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment, but someone else in the comments asked this and she replied "So when I place the tape at 9 on the sides, the across measurements become 14!

I’m trying to learn how to make skirts for two reasons: 1. I’m a femboy and my acting class started a femboy fridays thing and I wanna wear a skirt like the other femboy in my class 2. In the future my kids (if I get some) might want skirts when we go to like Disney land and they start asking for those expensive clothing imma just make it instead (plus then I could make it 10x better then the trash Disney sells)
