Love this tutorial! I just have a question. The 3mm size seems to be too big on a 1" round blank if you have a name that has a lot of letters, for instance "MaryKenna" or "Christina", etc.. I am planning on making these for my craft shows and for my website and haven't purchased anything yet, but I don't want to spend too much by buying the wrong size since these metal stamps are pretty expensive. So would 2mm size be better or would that look too small? Also, did you use a 3mm Uppercase and a 2mm lowercases in this video or did you use the 3mm size for both upper & lowercase in this video? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Hi Adrianne, i loved your video..Im wanting to get into metal stamping but don't know which kit to buy. Could you suggest a starter kit and where i can get it as well as blanks and all the other jewelry needs and supplies?
@AdrianneSurian9 жыл бұрын
I wish I could find a whole kit somewhere, to make it easy to add *one* thing to your cart that has everything you need! But, you'll need to buy the components individually. Here are two places I've tried to make it as easy as possible: On Amazon, I've organized a collection of the things I recommend: astore.amazon.com/haphoupro-20 On Goody Beads (where I typically shop), there's a metal stamping category and you can add what you need to your cart: www.goodybeads.com/trends/Metal-Stamping.htm You will need a bench block, hammer, stamp set, blanks, and polishing pads. A dapping block (or doming block) is optional, but I did use it here, and if your metal blanks don't have holes, then a hole punch as well. To make a necklace you will also need chain nose pliers, an 18" cable chain or curb chain sized anywhere from .8mm to 1.5mm, 7mm jump rings, plus any charms you may want to add.

Adrianne Surian I just bought a starter kit from Amazon, much cheaper than buying the items separately (hammer, small block, full set of [lowercase] 3mm stamps with 8 bonus stamps). These I feel are the essentials I needed to start. Then I bought some stamping blanks, tape, bracelet cord (I bought bamboo cord), copper practice sheets and some polishing pads. The font I bought (newsprint) may be more expensive than the standard ones you can buy at the hardware store so that's why I thought buying this kit was cheaper. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RMVX4U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Good luck with your stamping adventures :)

This is a great vid. Wanting to see if this is something I want to get into and you make it seem very easy and fun. I would've liked a close up in between, but otherwise great tutorial! Question- Does the sharpie eventually fade or need retouching?
@AdrianneSurian9 жыл бұрын
As long as you're not wearing your jewelry swimming or in the shower, no. Everyday touch, even the oils from your skin, will not get all the way inside those grooves. For the occasional times it might get wet like if it rains or if you forget once - that's not enough to remove permanent marker from an indentation. The impressions basically protect those areas from coming into contact with anything since the "surface" is everything you're able to polish up with the buffing cloth. I would recommend cleaning it every so often (mine need it once every few months) with a smooth buffing cloth, though, to be sure you're staying on the surface and not digging into the letter impressions. I hope that makes sense... just like if you have cracked tile and something spills on it, you'll never get it clean just by wiping it off. You would need to actually get a chemical down into that crack to lessen the spill - same as you would need to really get something inside those stamping impressions to fade them.

I have a few questions... 1. I know that aluminum is more inexpensive but would you say that it is a deterrant to potential buyers? 2. Where do you buy your chains from and what types of metal do you use for those?
@mallorikerr40925 жыл бұрын
Aluminium and Pewter are good beginner metals to practice on, the are softer and easier to stamp on. I just gotten started stamping and wont be trying the harder metals for a little but yet.

That is beautiful. Where do you buy your blanks from? You said that these are aluminum, but they look like nickel.
@sparklemejewelry75069 жыл бұрын
+Patricia DelMercado Aluminum comes in differenct guages or thickness. The aluminum blanks do look like nickel because she's using a thick guage. You can find all the blanks you want on Etsy or Amazon. It's much cheaper than trying to find them in the local craft store which I have found to be in short supply and they're very expensive. I was in Michaels today and saw nickel and copper blanks for $20 and you got 18 blanks, just shy of a buck a piece. You can get about 20 or so blanks for a lot less through Etsy or Amazon, around .30 to .60 cents a piece usually and if you buy multiple packs from the same seller, you'll likely get a shipping discount and Amazon fulfilled purchases will offer free shipping if you spend $35 or more :)

I have the water base enamel pain from impressart and so far handwashing, hand washing dishes and showering have not removed the pigment from the grooves. Sharpie markers would be safe as well. There is no rubbing that would cause the color to wash away.

hi what kind of metal u used? is alloy or stainless steel ok? tia
@AdrianneSurian9 жыл бұрын
+jodie khawand I am using aluminum here but the process is the same no matter what type of metal you use. The only difference would be if you do use stainless steel, that's much harder than any of the jewelry metals, and you'll need to use specially-hardened stamps that are rated for stamping steel (and those premium stamps DO exist, they're just not as common or as inexpensive as this basic stamp set I'm using in the video).

I used aluminum, and these are 1" round blanks. You can get them at Goody Beads (one of my favorite suppliers), or even from Amazon. If you're just getting started, a 50-pack like this one is a good idea so you have plenty of inexpensive blanks to practice on: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FY3Y86A/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00FY3Y86A&linkCode=as2&tag=haphoupro-20&linkId=BXMTOJ4HYH6GLCSP
