How to make a Hard Industrial Techno Kick in Ableton

Quick tutorial on how to make a fast filthy sounding industrial kick / bass in ableton live. I used some standard 909 kick samples. From here you can mix it some more to try make it your own or experiment with adding a few more layers!

Do you always add attack when making kicks? To shave off the transients? And also do you always have on the group compressor like the one MJUC u had there, do you compress a lot on that one?

First of all thx y!) Rekordbox+Battlefield+live+sk8ing(stylish shovit btw!) is one of my lovely combo (other one is slavery on the day job xD) Can i ask you plz a few questions. Y left attack in main kd 0.57 to cut 909 click a bit? You eq kick drum and cut lows because you decide to get him rev layer or because of second pattern that plays underneath( OR WHAT?? :D) You inverting phase in rack with reverb for checking phase canelation because you mixing chains with 27% MIX in valhalla? Is it for the taste type of decision when chaining rev for kd? Idk why i always turn chains to dry wet and get wet fully mixed in reverb, any advice? Thx for answering. hehe thanks bro! The attack is to clean up the transient a tiny bit, I removed some of the lows on the kick to make some more room for the other bass sounds yea, the reverb rumble / other pattern. 909 kicks have a sweet spot around 50-60hz, that's the point where they 'punch' your chest, I wanted to keep that but use a different sub / low end. The overall sound would be way to boomy / bassy if I kept the lower frequencies of the kick. Not too sure what you mean exactly with the reverb question but I'll explain a bit more. I used a low reverb number because I just wanted to give the 2nd kick layer in the rack (the wet layer) a bit more space / room. 100% reverb would just be way too much, also the decay should be pretty low so you dont get a constant reverb note but rather some reverb that 'changes' with the kick. Another reason for keeping the number low is because I distorted the kick again after the reverb part, with 100% reverb it would sound WAY to distorted and overpronounced, keep things subtle! :) Subtle = clean

It's a bad moove ...it gives the sensation that have more punch , because he has more dynamics...but he loses a Big part of low fréquencies ... And the results is not good at all, because in techno WE need a good low end

​@@jackSo42 For me it depends on the song and how much I have going on in the low end most of the times, I'd take dynamics in my kick over muddyness in the low end any day because you can always layer in more low end with some sub bass or just simply make the curve in the EQ on the kick less severe, bring back low end with fx,... possibilities are endless but I do agree that sometimes it's better to not cut the low end on the kick

@@swartmusic yes there is some options to correct ...but i stay thinking that this eq in the low is too hard, and not necessary ...personally , i would use a smooth low cut if i want to color a little beat with the phase shifting of thé filter, or to clean the extra low caused by saturations processes...but this hard cut Can create some phase shifting and post ringing problems (in the addition to loose a part of the low)

I do understand what you're saying but in techno we gel our kick bass so its one sounding organisim so this technique he made is actually new and some of my buddies use it but me i like a lottle mud in my dark techno and psytrance and my buddy likes clean like real clean mixes cause in the mastering stage you beef up the lows without fucking up your mix and presence of the kick right above the sub

@@joeghosn7642 when you talk about mud, are you talking about the rumble due to all the sturation processes? in truth, it is not necessarily annoying ... below 20hz you hear nothing ... what I'm saying is that doing a low cut with a super steep slope can create problems, because you're going to create very violent phase shifts... and either, if you have done your sound design well, you do not need to boost your sub in the mastering phase

Same standard 909 samples! These are from Production Music Live but litteraly any 909 sample pack will do. The ones that come stock on ableton are also great, just not the best quality in my opinion
