You might want to turn the slantedged planks round. Either that or raise the angle of the roof. Water isn't going to run off.. it's going to pool.
@PhillWyattProjects4 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, I know what you mean. The video doesn't show the angle of the roof very well and makes it look almost flat. However it actually has a good lean on it in real life.

Hi, Great Video and i will be copying this house, one question though, do you need breather holes in the back for ventilation?
@PhillWyattProjects7 ай бұрын
Cheers! There are little gaps between all of the pallet wood slats so I don't think it needs extra ventilation also the opening provides a good amount of ventilation although I guess it would hurt to add a few more drill holes.

Have seen a hedgehog twice in our communal garden . We have made the effort and created a safe space garden however where we live it not advisable to feed birds and stuff because there can be an issue with Rats from the nuts , bread whatever birds feed on . I know we have a fox that visits however he does not pose any issue hygiene wise anyway however would a hedgehog house attract rats specifically? And what do you feed them . Yes I could google it however I’m sure someone visiting this feed will advise
@PhillWyattProjects Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't think rats are interested in hedgehog houses that I know of. I think hedgehogs actually like to eat cat and dog food.

Does my hedgehog house need a ventilation hole? It's got a walkway in and then goes around the corner to a separate room where he is now ..I'm desperate for a little help with a answer please..
@PhillWyattProjects2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it should be fine. Hedgehog houses are not air tight. They have an opening which is similar to having a window open in your house. Where the roof joins there are gaps to provide even more ventilation.

Great video and a nice house as well, especially the little sign. Have you noticed any cats getting inside to steal any food that you’ve put in there? If this happens, you could change the tunnel to make it longer and so that the entrance via the tunnel includes a 90 degree corner in it.

Need to be cool to hibernate. Put some shredded newspaper and dry straw inside to start the nest. Cover the box with some roofing felt or pond liner. This will keep it dry and extend its life. Finally cover the box with leaves, compost, soil or branches to provide natural insulation and improve the overall appearance. Dont put a base on home.

Love the house I think it looks amazing! But how do you get in to clean it? Or was that never the intention? Awesome project, but the hedgehog houses must not be painted, they must be only with untreated wood. Also some types of wood are toxic to hedgehogs, such as cedar.
@PhillWyattProjects2 жыл бұрын
I thought water based paint was fine. I didn't know they are sensitive to Cedar 🤔
@ani.dimitrova2 жыл бұрын
@@PhillWyattProjects well not sure about if any of water or oil-based would be fine, i just keep reading everywhere that only pure untreated wood must be used. But worth a check I support :) As for the cedar - it is toxic to some hedgehogs species, like the pygmy ones, might not be for the european wild ones that we have, but when I was looking for wood to put as a bottom of my store-bought hedgehog house (unfortunately i am not as handy as you are), i specifically looked for anything but cedar, just to be on the safe side :) Hope your house has been used numerious times already, mine are now used by a juvenile hedgehog and got several more hedgies coming for food :)

Two downsides to the house: the house is not ventilated and cannot be opened (walls, roof is stationary) for inspection.
@PhillWyattProjects4 жыл бұрын
Yes. That is correct. This year I will make another one with a better design. This was the first one I ever made.
@BIGCOLINable2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. The gaps from the weather boards would have provided ventilation if it wasn’t for the plastic board underneath. I would also make the slope greater to ensure water run off.
