@@angktrl it's probably really really really shitty. Of course he probably had access to better materials than this. This is meant to be more of a science experiment rather than to make an actual speaker, it works tho which is honestly really cool. How many turns of wire and where do you get the magnets from, and does it matter about the polarity of the magnets ? Great job by the way......
@OverEngineered
@OverEngineered 8 жыл бұрын
The exact number of turns is not very important. I did about 20-30. I've had the magnets that I used for a few years and can't remember exactly where I got them. They likely came out of something that I took apart. The polarity of the magnets does not matter. Thanks!

Could I just cut the 3.5mm jack from broken headphones and connect it to the copper wire, then plug it into my phone?
@OverEngineered
@OverEngineered 7 жыл бұрын
The only reason that would not work well, if at all, is because the signal coming out of a phone is fairly weak. You need a strong signal for a crude speaker like this to produce sound. That is why I used a powerful stereo system amplifier.
@ozapenguin
@ozapenguin 7 жыл бұрын
Would you need a less stronger signal if you used more coils or a bigger magnet?
@OverEngineered
@OverEngineered 7 жыл бұрын
A stronger magnet might help some. But, the best thing to do if you have a weak signal is make the speaker very small. For example, the 3.5mm jack from a phone is made for powering headphones which are small speakers. You need to amplify the signal from a phone if you want to use speakers bigger than headphones.

Do you have to burn the end of the magnet wire for it to work?
@mrnac5
@mrnac5 5 жыл бұрын
Indy IFA the wire you have to use is coated kinda like a regular wire with rubber/plastic on it, but instead of rubber/plastic it’s coated with a very thin layer of non conductive material, so when he burns the ends he’s taking off that coating so it’s conductive and he can make a connection.

i was wondering the same "can you use more magnets?" as far as i have seen its all ok if they are stacked on top of each other and if they are of course the same size as for the thickness of wire i think its 0.2mm (idk what gauge is that) i have seen 10 inch speakers using same 0.2mm wire, so i guess every speaker pretty much uses same vires, but you should watch out how much ohms does your speaker have before putting it into an amp. You should probably look towards 4ohms as most amps support it. But i couldn't find how can you calculate how much ohms will the vires have I hope i helped you
