I watch your old videos over and over because there is so much packed into those old videos, and I pick up something new every time I see it! I can absolutely see KZbin being a financially rewarding venture for you as you produce more content and pick up more subscribers. You not only have an incredible amount of bonsai and horticultural knowledge, but you also know how to convey that complicated information in an engaging and easy-to-understand way! Your love and enthusiasm for bonsai and knowledge is invigorating!!!!

The timing of this video is perfect for me. I have a Sargent Juniper that I've been growing from nursery stock for four or five years, and I've been planning to start styling it this year. I had been unsure about what directions I would take with it, but since it looks very similar to the specimen in the video, I now have a lot more ideas and confidence to move ahead. Thank you!

Nicely done. Ryan I've been learning so much from you these past few years. My yamadori sagebrush in my icon would of killed over a long time ago if wasn't for you teaching me the skills I needed to better understand how to properly care for it. It's four years old and continues to thrive in my care for that I can't thank you enough.

I loved this video very much. I feel like I've learned so many tips for styling and wiring techniques. I just got a quick question: What is when you refer to positive and negative spaces?
@bravofoxable2 жыл бұрын
Just like in art... Positive spaces are areas occupied by a shape or form. Negative spaces are the areas in between and around those positive spaces. They can help draw attention to features an artist considers important.... Hope this helps you?

I really enjoy your videos they are so informative and you make them easy to understand no matter what level/experience you may have thank you for sharing. Being fairly new to the art of Bonsai, my question is when would you remove the wiring? I would think that those tertiary branches would defiinatley thicken/grow over the growing season, so do I need to keep an eye on them as not to let the wire cut into branch(s)?

Imo too much deadwood. Not every juniper needs that. That one in the video looks old enough for me through the thick trunk.
@CGKFPV2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you won't care, but I feel like the parts where you actually trimmed the tree is where you should be explaining your process instead of filming yourself after the fact. Rattling off a bunch of things we can all read in books is not valuable, at least not to me. I would MUCH rather have you explain while you show us what you are cutting and why. Nigel Saunders does this wonderfully, maybe take a peak at one of his videos.
@BonsaiMirai2 жыл бұрын
Hi @CGKFPV, This is actually a shortened version that is geared towards introducing bonsai concepts to a beginner and refreshing those concepts for others. Mirai has many videos explaining the more detailed work of pruning, secondary/tertiary development and advanced horticultural information for a variety of species both here on youtube, as well as on live.bonsaimirai.com. One of those many videos is a deeper dive into this very piece. Sorry that this wasn't what you were looking for, and yes, all of Mirai does care to hear all feedback.

Ryan, I love your videos (I'm a subscriber on Bonsai Mirai, which is awesome!). I still can't wrap my head around how you can do that much work on a juniper in one shot and have it live. I understand that this was an already healthy juniper, but seriously what's your secret?! (Wizard?) I've been sticking to one thing at a time either repot or pruning or wiring or deadwood, and yet I still have a few that still don't make it. Is there a special after care regimen?

Hi Ryan! I just had a quick question for you, I’ve always heard you should never remove more than 30% of a junipers foliage at any given time. Is this true all of the time?
@mattgrant20892 жыл бұрын
following!
@angelaraneta1592 жыл бұрын
it was a very healthy tree to begin with, as seen by the massive foliage on that tree even when growing in that small pot.. the care (quality of soil and ferts) applied on that tree the years prior this work has ensured a higher survivability..
@segwaysegments2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely follow that rule unless you have a specially designed tree like this that was both made for bonsai as well as being super healthy.
