How to Make a Keyhole Scarf

I've made these for years. Just a suggestion. I found it easier to make it by turning the scarf inside out after sewing it together leaving an opening to do so. Then.....I make the large button hole opening. Everyone loves them. Yes......they are a great gift. Love your red and plaid fabric choices.

i find marking an opening with 2 pins put side by side easy to understand where gap goes. Also the gap should be around 3" so you can turn inside out. Also, the tube effect only occurs near where the keyhole is, after that the rest flattens out to a rectangle.

I asked me , if I would a longer scarf where can I place the keyhole to have the exact center of the scarf under the neck ?

I would decide how much longer you want the scarf to be. Cut the fabrics to the length that you want. Divide the number you added to the scarf by two. Using the measurements that I provided create the keyhole in the same way but move it up by that number. That way the scarf is longer on the ends and the keyhole will finish in the same spot under the neck. I hope this makes sense.

Can a regular knit scarf be turned into a keyhole scarf? How can a keyhole be made without the knit unraveling?

I don’t think you can sew it tgat way. You would have to knit the keyhole into it.

Yes but i found that it gave a little puffy look to the scarf but it is up to you.

At your 12:40 seconds mine is the right side to the wrong side on the back fabric. It doesn’t work at all. I did few times. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm making this as a gift for my mother right now and I'm really getting frustrated at the part where we make it into tubes. Am I supposed to sew the outer fabric to itself then the lining to itself because usually when I get started it makes sense but I'm getting really disappointed feeling like I cannot get this.

I TRIED to make this 2 years ago and it DIDN’T turn out well! I don’t know WHAT happened but when I TRIED to turn it right sides out…. Somehow one side was the right side and the other side was the wrong side. I just gave up and just sold two pieces together turn it right sides out and so that once I down and called it a day cause this keyhole thing did not work!
