Bino, I watched all your videos and all were helpful, useful and helped me to learn what I could not in a book. You should really open a small school for Arborist. I am from Denver, Colorado and would take a few months to participate in your class. Colorado offers little to none and are personally selected when something comes about. Well thank you for the videos and keep them going cause many of us find this as a second hand tutorial but me, it is first hand. Take care and be safe.

I made one similar to yours. I used a nylon foot loop since I do not have boots with the loop. I also added an elastic velcro strap to hold the knee ascender to my leg when I am walking around without being attached to the climbing system. I also used a double bungie setup. I looped mine through a small quick link attached to the top of the ascender. It acts as a pulley for the cord.

I also tried to make one… I used longer bungee cord as mentioned in over the shoulder. I got a bit more “pull” but it was cumbersome. I used a Velcro strap as well to keep it closer to my knee and more in-line with my climbing line. That worked slightly better and ensured a more clean setup. For efficiency purposes, and correct me if I am wrong, the main issue to overcome is the angle at which the chest ascender is made in relation to how you climbing line runs through… I assume the patent on the modified angle already ran out…so does that mean it is “free game” to develop a stand alone ascender made for DIY’ers :) It’s okay if someone wants to steal my idea…just send me a free one when you launch lol. STAY SAFE, and keep doing these awesome videos!!

i just made my own also! i found that having a longer bungee going over my shoulder was more desirable for maximum progress capture

Knee asenders are 180 and chest asenders are 50 it's a good entry level idea. I've been looking all around to see some do this before investing in it. Ty

I found out today a an oak tree about 48” in diameter is no place to try to learn to gaff your way up when you have never done it before. I got on but couldn’t get a flip. Had to be a crack up for the neighbors. I got my thro line through send toss, but it’s too brush below that fork to let my friction saver go past. Now I’ll be going up almost to that height on a 24’ ladder to handsaw all those little branches off to get my rigging through. What a crack up.

@@Huzzunga yes very difficult to use a flip line on thick of. Guilty of Treeson made a video using a flip line on large wood. Stay safe!

I used theraband from Amazon for mine. I used bungee cords first but they stretched out and broke shortly after. I used para cord for the non stretch portion and doubled it to help strengthen it

Using my knee ascender feels restricted, tangled and difficult to take off and get out of the way. Is using a hand ascender and foot ascender better?
@BinoH Жыл бұрын
I haven't used a hand ascender but some people do very well with that setup.

My knee ascender is set up the same. Between ascents, I click from the boot, pass around your back and clip to your chest harness. Way easier than dealing with the commercial brands

Wouldn't this work for a rope grab ascender?
@BinoH Жыл бұрын
No I don't believe so. Rope grabs have different purpose.
