I like to use sharpie when i dont have layout fluid. Works great, blue shows the lines the best, followed by black.

I love this retake / new overdub of this classic video of yours that TRULY got me to where I am at now. I think this video series single handed got me to a comfortable point making knives, creating bevels, etc. I watched the originals, and they were SUPER helpful, and these new overdubs are amazing extra content, you better believe I am watching again!

When it comes to clamping down small work, I can't be bothered clamping everything down as it can be a pain when the work moves a bit when you are clamping. A good compromise it to have a clamp on your sacrificial piece of wood so one end of the work being drilled rests up against it, or will do if it rotates. It makes life so much easier and safer.

I recommend working without gloves on the grinder. Yesterday i was working and the tip of my glove got caught in the gap between the belt and the flat plate. Took it right off my hand. Good thing i hadnt tightened the velcro strap around my wrist.

For pin layout I like to cheat 1-2mm above the centerline towards the spine. After the contouring the bottom of the handle, center aligned pins can still it can look visually low. I mainly work with chef knives with larger handles so this might exaggerate the effect. Lots of good info, thanks for posting

Wonderful series. Thanks so much. Can you point out some decent 2x72 grinders? Also, you have a plasma cutter in your links. Can you/have you made a video on its usage with compressed air (is dry air VS regular compressed air a thing?) VS cutters that use tanks of elements?

Hi I know you probably mentioned this in a video, but what milling machine do you use for guards? Been making knives for about 4 months and tired of filing for the hidden tangs. Looking for something that works good but won’t break the bank. Thanks!

I personally use a Bridgeport, it's a good old American machine.. You can usually find them for about 1500 bucks the hassle is moving them because they weigh 1200 pounds

I called new jersey steel baron, they said they only sell oversized 1095...is that the same as precision ground? Maybe I'm not using the right terminology? 🤔
@Aleeknives
@Aleeknives 2 жыл бұрын
That's what they call it. Incomes cut perfectly without the edges rolled over. I guess they don't want to call it precision ground because it might vary in thickness slightly from sheet to sheet
