I'm an old retired fart with lots of time on my hands and have a work/crafting shop in my house that I do many types of in. I'm mainly a wood worker but have ventured into many types of different arts/crafts, including beadwork, replica western gun making, (outta wood ), among many other crafts. I always enjoy learning new crafts and furthering my knowledge in different crafts. So...that being said, I wanted to make myself a new belt, as mine is nearing the end fast. I watched many videos on inlaying beaded belts, but I'm not going to purchase all the necessary tools to do that. I just wanted a simple plain belt that I could make and this video is just what I was looking for. I give thanks to Ryan for this video and I hope many others will watch and learn something as I did.

I loved this video. Just before I watched this one I watched another and the guy was a total professional. I think this video helped me more because the guy is honest and says that he is a beginner. His work wasn’t perfect but gave me the confidence to try it myself. Honestly, the imperfections don’t bother me either. And, he made his own, functional belt. How many ppl can say that? I say great job...

I’m making belt for my son. I’ve been working with leather since I was young but not consistently. I have the tools, passed down from dad, and I’m trying to remember what to do with them. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you!

Same here my parents are leather workers and they showed me how to do it when I was younger but need reminders on how to do it so I will be visiting my parents to relearn and make some money on the side.

Im sure after 3 years you've learned this but for any newbies watching...use the size end that matches the width of your strap. Otherwise you won't get the belt end shape right. You just get a triangle like in this video. If you just want a triangle end no need for the template.

Hi Ryan. I'm a woodworker just now getting into leather. I'm going to try to make a belt like this for a first project. My goal though, is to build a new office desk and cover the surface in one entire sheet of leather. What do you think of the idea?

The burnisher I own is just a piece of smooth wood with grooves in it. You could probably make one yourself with some sandpaper and something to seal a piece of wood. I don't know what that is called, epoxy I think

Enjoyed your tutorial. I'm getting ready to make my first belt. I'be been studying all the pros for the past few months. It was refreshing to see someone closer to my level knocking a belt out relatively easy. Curious, how wide was your groove? What size Oval punch did you buy for the latch to stick into? Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. I'll be on the lookout for your new vids in the future.
