I too have started using Aquilim 315 adhesive purchased from a company in Germany. I had real reservations about using cement glue because of the toxic fumes and smell. So far Aquilim has performed brilliantly, not to so much wriggle room to re-adjust the leather once you've applied it, but I know how long I've got before it sets (a few minutes) and it's a strong bond with no odors! We need you to do more videos and show your skills!!

Done! Thanks for the comprehensive tutorial! I used thinner leather for the inside pockets. Finished the edges with the cloth tip of my Dremel (first water then beeswax, I have no Tokonol), looks kind of polished. Next time I'll make sure I glue the layers deeper in, so I don't remove most of my glued leather when doing the final cut. Can't wait to give it to someone :)

I'm fairly new to leatherwork and one thing I've been having trouble with is making a perfect stitching line on the back side. Often it ends up crooked or incorrectly spaced from the edge because it's hard to keep the chisels perfectly straight going through a bunch of layers of leather. Any tips? is it just a matter of buying better chisels or is there a technique to it?

I would definitely thin the pockets if they were tucked behind another pocket, like in a "T-shirt" pocket (where multiple pockets are stacked on top of one another). For a simple card wallet like this, I don't personally feel the need to do it. Thanks for asking-- this is just my 2 cents, of course!

After sitting for a year they called a clearing house to get an estimate, and they sent a small check for approval. I caught it before it went up the chain and offered the same amount. Split it with my tech, 4 trautmans, 2 drill presses, 2 band saws, 2 chemical cabinets, and a vacuum pulling station. Deal of the century. We kept the trautmans and sold the rest. Still have the chemical cabinets. And would still like to sell a couple trautmans. Probably keep one as they are so familiar from work it carries over well at home.

@ClaridgeLeather
@ClaridgeLeather 3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the pricking iron? I think it mostly boils down to the specific irons you’re using. I have used many that are tougher to remove, but these teeth are a more narrow polished blade, so they tend to go in and out more easily. Teeth that are tapered, rough, or larger diameter seem harder to remove. I have seen people poke the teeth in wax (paraffin) before hammering them in, which seems to make the tool easier to remove. Hope that answers your question!
