I do the same thing with losing a part just as you did with the counter sink bit , I tear the house apart and than find it sitting next to me and laugh my butt off . Great video as I have just picked my first pad lock and am ordering a pick kit and am going to make it my hobby as I find it fascinating how the locks work , I may even take a locksmith course as the closest locksmith is all the way in the next county .

@RaySulz I'm glad you understand without needing a demonstration, but there are a lot of people that can benefit from this instruction. If you pick your house locks for practice you can actually wear down the pins and there's potential for causing damage to the springs. ~ Bryan

@formatC2 Absolutely! Kwikset's are great to learn on, especially deadbolt sets like these where you can remove pins. Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video! ~ Bryan

@tonyacehawk Just like DemonHide commented, the reason we provide this information is to reveal the illusion of security and how to best defend against it. Please look up the locksport code of ethics found in our articles on lockpicking at ITS Tactical.

@jmmurdy Not quite sure I'm following what your comment is saying.

For knowing what direction to tension a lock, look at it and ask yourself what direction you want the bolt to travel. The bolt goes OVER the top of the key, so left is counter clockwise and right is clockwise. Simple

My advice from a woodworking perspective on how to improve this project and make it much stronger... Take a handsaw and chisel or a skilsaw/tablesaw and cut a notch half the depth into the bottom board all the way across. Fit the other board into the notch and paint both surfaces with wood glue. Then if you like you could drill two or three 1/2" holes in from the bottom an hammer in pieces of dowel rod...no metal fasteners needed. Also lowes sells a little jig kit for setting locks...

Yeah, I made one, but not with two deadbolts. Gonna be making a Lock pick making series on KZbin May 2014. I actually bought a Schlage bronze deadbolt for it, and stained it. I never knew about this video before I did it. I also stained my wood too. Gonna be doing this next month, but with a Yale & another Schlage. Maybe 3 deadbolts idk.. maybe take out the one I have already and add it to the new one. I also put eye hooks or bolts for 3 padlocks on the sides. Nice Lock Pick Practice Station. (+1 : 246)

Thanks... Not that it matters, but the wood you used is in the store as a 2x10.
@GNGR-dw4ch5 жыл бұрын
For those of you who dont know wood working or carpentry, just grab a 2X10 from your local hardware store or scrap from a job site and it'll do the the job. (lumber these days is acutally a half inch shorter then the given measurements. i.e. 2X4 is 1 1/2X3 1/2)

Cool Video, but you don't need a countersync, you can use a larger drill bit that is slightly larger then the screw head!

I went to my local lumber yard and asked the guy working in the yard if they had any scrap lumber to make my lock stand and he gave me 6 pieces of lumber that is treated for free , I offered the guy acouple dollars but he would't take it as he said it was scrap and worth nothing . Talk about luck all I have to do now is wait until I order my ITS stickers to make it complete !

i dunno if anyone else said the same thing, but wouldnt it be cheaper to flip the lock upside down to reverse the lock positions? great vids btw

Why would you want to pick a lock? Are you a locksmith? I think locksmith tool are illegal to posses unless you are a locksmith.
