Hi Patty, I’m confused (as a newbie to macrame AND not made a bag before), how did you make the FIRST handle? You show it already completed and then instruct to copy the first one…..as I’m making it for the first time, I don’t already have one to “copy”. It would be so much easier to SHOW the first one, THEN tell people to copy that for the 2nd side. So to make the 1st handle, I just lay out the two strips of cords and overlap them at the top, trying to make them approx 10.5” and then tape all of it together (12 cords all together)? Thanks in advance for your help. This tutorial is so much nicer than others I’ve watched. Theirs have cords in knots all over the inside….yours is very clean and turned out so beautifully!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
You didn’t need to see the first handle being made as I show you how to make it. Once you have made one handle than you can copy that size for your second handle. And just like you said above. Try and make your handle measure about 10.5” like I showed in the video.

If I were to cut the length in half (32 x 1.5 meters) would that make the bag half the size? I like this pattern better than any I have found on the internet, however I don’t want it as big. Would it maybe be better to do 2 meters per cord?

If I want to make it wider, do I have to add extra 4 or 8 stripes?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts4 жыл бұрын
4 more cords will give you 8 strands. So decide if that is wide enough for you. If not than add 2 more each time for extra width. So 6,8,10 etc. Keep in mind that you will have to alter the pattern a bit when you get to the handles.

this looks so good am wondering I have some precut 200cm lengths already could I use them and would it make the bag smaller or should I just go with the length you have stated :) thanks
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts4 жыл бұрын
I used 3 metre lengths and you are hoping to use 2 metre lengths. If you want to use up your cut cords than you could make a smaller bag. I would suggest making it a bit narrower and you will not be able to macrame as many rows as I did. 1/3 less rows. You need enough left over for the handles. This bag stretches a lot so a smaller bag will still be useful.

If the square knots are being formed correctly and you tighten each knot than they should not be coming loose.

I’m confused. So do you cut 32 pieces of macrame cord at 3 yards each? If it is at 3 meters each, then it does not make sense that they are so long.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts3 жыл бұрын
I try and give both measurements. Yes, you cut 32 pieces at 3 metres each or that would be 3 yds 10”. Remember that you will be folding each cord in half. Now your cords will be 1.5 metres long.

It is so hard to time my projects as I design as I go, I organize how I’m going to present the steps of the video, I am setting up camera and editing all at the same time. So it would have to be a guesstimate on time spent to complete this bag from start to finish. So maybe between 2 to 3 hours.

Hello! I want to start my own macrame bag business. Can you give me any advice about copyright and what is free macrame pattern means. Thank you!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know the laws on copyright for handmade items. It’s a fine line. As far as I’m concerned if the artist is giving away their pattern for free or showing how to do it for free then one should be able to make it and sell it. Thats just my opinion. Here’s a bit of info that I found online. Every creative work is automatically copyright from the time that it is expressed in tangible form. Yes, this applies to handmade, fiber arts. Yes, both copying a paper rendition of the design and copying the fiber work are both copyright infringment. Having the same "idea" is OK. Copying what they have done (without permission) is not.

@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Hi Patti! I also accidentally used 28 pieces instead of 32 - how would you suggest adjusting the handles? I am having a hard time figuring it out! Would hate to lost all the work I did to get to this point. Thanks in advance for any tips you have!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts5 жыл бұрын
It took me quite a bit of time to work this out for you. If you only have 28 strands for the front and the back then here is a solution so you can finish your bag. So you will have 14 strands for each handle on the front and back of the bag. The first square knot on the left will be made with 3 cords instead of 4. So you just wrap around 1 cord instead of 2. Next two square knots as regular. The fourth square knot just 3 cords again. Alternate your square knots as shown in the video. The only difference is your side knots with one less cord. At 16:05 time stamp I wrap around 4 cords. You will only wrap around 3 cords. You will have 1 less cord for the remainder of the rows.
