Yes you can, but you’ll have to use linen as well.

No, you don’t need to. Just make the linen shorter than the lace. Then hem the lace and linen separately. It’ll be neater than way

Hello!! I really love your explanation it’s very easy to understand and I love the simplicity of the design!! One question though, how many yards of fabric should I get? Should I get it based on my height

3 yards is fine for this style. If you’re tall, you should get a fabric that has a long width (60”) not Ankara that has 45” width. However, if you decide to use Ankara, you might have to join it at the hem.
