As a photographer, I usually dont like telling my mdoels if I am shooting full body, half body, if legs are in etc. Because often then the model can forget to move. For example if they know the legs are not in the photo, they can become stiff, which affects the whole pose. Not just the legs. So I tell them to move around as they please, use their legs and arms and rather tell them when not to use their legs and hands. I also zoom in and out and move around alot, so it can change from half to full body real fast.

great information! Although I have to say, I feel it is easier for a woman to contact and connect with models than for a male photographer. (Being somewhat introverted doesn't help either 😅) Definitely going to try some of these tips to make some extra connections! Thanks!

Happy to hear it was useful to you! And I understand what you mean. At the end of the day it comes to good communication and treat others the way you’d want to be treated. And if you feel like the model still doesn’t feel comfortable around you. And you’ve done your best and have been yourself. Then it’s not the right match. You’d want to work with someone you can level with. Let me know if you have any other questions!🙌

I would mention that female models shooting with male photographers often times do not feel comfortable going to get food or coffee as they usually think the photographer is trying to have a date with the model. It's much different with a female photographer and female model. It maybe a bit different, if the male photographer has been shooting with the female model for a while and they have a good working relationship. Again that said, there are a some female models that I've been working with for years, but yet I have not had (even) coffee with them. I know what you are saying here and it certainly is a fine line.

@McDughf8 ай бұрын
It all depends on whether or not the model can be bothered to read the brief though. I've had so many just turn up with the wrong types of outfit, no idea of the mood or scene we're trying to set and it gets frustrating but you have to crack on.... 🙄

You make great videos, but there are a few buts in here. If you do that positive reinforcement to me (man) in a shoot, I would think, she's nuts and totally over-acting. Think fake. Part of this is that women seem - research, depending on language and what constitutes a word - to speak more per day (22,000 as opposed to 9,000 for men). The thing you are addressing is to have a sensitivity about what and who the model is. Think radar. Part of the issue then is "model directed" versus "photographer directed". I photographer-directed models that had never experienced that, and it scared them "shitless" my posh British friends would say. You take a risk in trying that, but when you can "chimp" with them "Ooh, this is a great shot" looking at the back of the camera or a larger size monitor in the shoot, that can turn confidence and trust around quickly - with professional models. This to build the trust that a shot of which you say it is great, is indeed great in their perception. As a woman you have an advantage over men - functional MRI in cognitive psychology research indicate that an unknown man is a threat to males and females, while an unknown woman does not pose a threat. The way you talk about the posing sends the message "model directed" but my guess is that you do some photographer-directing as a way to set boundaries. The video is too short to explain that, but it is an important part of how you, we, work. To the male photographer, it is important to understand that the female model needs to be prevented from getting distracted and prevented to give in to insecurities. The anatomy of the brain is ont he X chromosome and women have two of those. Imagine the internal chit-chat and yes-buts between the two Xs. The elephant in the room is that you are a pretty girl. I'm not flirting here, because I don't know your character. The point is women are very sensitive to looks. In your model's perception that may make you better than her and give you more authority, or it may make her doubt your judgment. Whichever it will be may just depend on where she is in her 4 weeks' cycle - with big differences in confidence and being extraverted rather than introverted. Or something else. (FYI, men have a 24 hour cycle, from maturity until they die. During each day, that cycle has ups and downs. The general pattern is high in the morning and low 12 hours later, but the descent during the day is a zig-zag pattern. The scientist - woman - who described this mathematically forgot to explain what happens between 6PM and 6AM when a guy's hormones must peak again.) The question is if selecting a moment relative to these cycles with the model can help them. While the photographer must try to not have a cycle.

All great advice Faye! a lot of the times i have like the full idea of the project in my head, but it's not very easy to present what you dream , to someone else. Also question since you are both a photographer and a model, when someone asks you to try an idea even if it doesn't make too much sense to you on how it's gonna look (don't imagine anything crazy)(sometimes models think they won't look good in a weird pose, but they cannot see what we see).....in that case do you reject the idea or you try and if it fails it fails? But almost every time it gives you a good result ? I 'm like this is half the fun trying stuff and there you have many girls want to just sit there look pretty and give no effort to the shoot.
@inyourfayes8 ай бұрын
Heyy! I see what you mean 😊 What really helps is gathering a moodboard. With maybe even the colours, similar sort of shots. Just try and get as close to your idea. This way the model can visualise it. Especially when you’re working with someone for the first time. And I would ALWAYS try the ideas you have, sometimes it might even turn out better than imagine. You rather have a failed shot, then no shot at all. And I can recommend being open to the model: “Say, hey! I’ve got this random idea. And I really want to experiment and see if it works out. You have to trust me during the process. But you would be the perfect fit for it.” 🩷
@EleniKouvelou8 ай бұрын
@inyourfayes that's an awesome response 🤩🤩 English isn't my first language and some times during the shoots my brain just forgets all the words 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm like 😳 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And the moodboard is really helpful indeed. I need to get better at creating one ! 🙃🙃
