Focusing on two currently "less-sexy" modules in the LS1 and Warps is just AWESOME as it feels that most recent videos only focus on the HOT module of the moment instead of integrated tools and utilities that many of us already have. Thanks.

Warps is seriously one of the best things you can add to a small modular. Also not shown or mentioned in this video: it's a really good linear TZFM carrier. And it's definitely worth getting the full Warps instead of a clone because that big glowing knob is fantastic.

Nice! I got a really good 303-emulation-patch out of just old Doepfer modules, an MPC60ii and a Kenton pro2, a few years back. A-110 vco, A-103 vcf, A-132-3 dual vca, A-171 vc slew [original version] - turn it on and off for slides, using Pro2 CH.A aux1 cc. A-140 - [general shape of VCA-upper] A-140 - [using second one for very short Accent shape via Pro2 CH.B aux cc, on a different MIDI channel to CH.A, - with just a little attack to get that Wulp] - send to VCA-lower, and a little to A-103 cv3 - via multipe. A-142 vc Decay - into - A-103 cv2 - [using Pro2 CH.A aux2 cc to adjust decay shape for ties, and slides] A-180 multples A-136 distortion [optional] Tedious to set up, but fun, - and it helped me deal with the loss, having sold my original 303 in the early 2000s. Personally, out of the new machines, - the MAM, Boutique and TD-3, - I like the MAM the most, - it has that perfect K. Akexi Shelby sound when clipped internally, and it has a high-quality sound to it even when pushed, that puts it above even the original IMO, - just wish it looked a little better, and the knobs were fixed to the panel... love to ALL, feel no hate

I love these videos, keep'm coming. I have the m303 and also got the behringer 303 but i'm keeping my M303 because like you are showing, you can do more with modular. Maybe you're already sorta doing this with warps but one main reason why i'm keeping my m303 is because you can FM it with that "VCO Mod" input instant alien techno riffs ugh! Plus can sequence it with other eurorack sequencers, i'm using the octone which is great cause you can do slides-accents, Metropolis is also great with it.

M303 is discontinued. Stepper Acid surprisingly available again in 2024. Main thing i would love to do 303wise is to replace filters and that aint easy, just replace the filter but keep that interaction between slides/envelopes/vcas the same. For the moment i ended up just running my TD3 or cyclone through another filter via input module and envelope follower to modulate.

No matter which video, you always have the most sizzling drumtracks with sensational voicing. How the hell do you do it.
@scalebrain643
@scalebrain643 3 жыл бұрын
Roland analog style drum voices are infinitely classic, versatile, and typically sit well in the mix for most electronic based music. Personally I’ve gravitated towards the real analog circuitry, but the AIRA or other digital replication/recreations get the job done in similar fashion, and still bring the party. Better drum programming comes from listening to music with more/different rhythms. Most modern music tends to bring a “1-2” feel to my body, where older forms of electronic music tended to experiment more with time signature or just more dynamic patterns where the drums can essentially hold the whole track down. Long story short - listen to early Aphex Twin or Autechre era electronic music to see what I mean.

Thanks!! Always feel I have a lot more to learn about drum programming - I think that yes, unquestionably Aphex is the master of it, it boggles my mind what he achieves. So yes absolutely work your way through his back catalogue for inspiration, play some of the tunes at slower speed too (you can do that on youtube!) - Maybe start with the Richard D James album, then play Windowlicker, then Drukqs. There’s also a world of electro to work through, start with that Helena Hauff Dekmantel 100 podcast mix for a banging intro

> soundcloud.com/dkmntl/dekmantel-podcast-100-helena-hauff < I should add, you might find it useful to get a little drum sequencer to play around with programming, it's so much more entertaining than using a mouse! Beatstep Pro is a great shout as it'll work with software, is plentiful second hand, and you can program velocity (which is important and I never do enough with!)

@@mylarmelodies Thank you for not abandoning a year old thread! There aren´t too many demos available on the boomstar and there are different impressions: Name and product description point to 303, reviews give mixed messages, I might give it a try despite the lack intertubes proof. Another option I look at is the ajh diode ladder filter. That said, sequencing and envelopes, especially their reaction to multiple consecutive triggers, play a big role too afaik, so I´ll see how far wmd javelin and/or multimode env go will get me. Might involve a bit of slewed CV feedback too. The lightstrip is intriguing, but I´d aim for 3 or 4 (cutoff, q, some env parameters), maybe a tetrapad to get maximum playability with record and playback. As always, I´m not sure whether I should praise or curse you for inspiring me ^^ (it was the same with modular to begin with). Have a great day!

This reminds me of that myth of how the Americans spent millions on developing a pen that would write in space, whereas the Russians used a pencil. @@mylarmelodies I own the whole original AIRA bingo (some bought new, some second hand) and they're some of the most fun and immediate machines out there especially when all hooked up the MX-1. Jams for days.

I have the TR-8S that is cool but the TR-8 is the one I keep connected to the daily system. Simple and great to use for getting the drum ideas down.

You’d have to ask the dude who made it, but in my understanding of such things - limitations are usually there with good reason/it’s not as trivial as you may think!

@@mylarmelodies Perhaps. But I've got a £200 Skulpt synth that can record loads of knob twiddling within the sequencer memory. -- it just seems a little pathetic these days when a good quality device has such a strict limitation

This video is just much like showing off a several million dollar koenisegg. like why spend thousands when you can spend tens on a behringer td-3? also Warps is open source so you can most definitely use it for free on vcv rack.
