Very inspiring! I've just gotten into natural dyeing and I didn't know marigolds could be used for dyeing! I'm gonna keep this in mind and be ready to collect some next summer! 🌼☀

Glad to hear it! You may still find some plants in your local nursery. If you start collecting the blooms now, you could have enough to try your first experiment.

Thanks so much for the video! Any tips on how to dry the flowers?
@MyraMadeColor4 жыл бұрын
I use a very simple method: add the flower heads to a paper bag that I keep in a cool, dark place. I will shake the bag often to keep air moving and reduce the chance of mold growing. You can also lay them out on a tray to dry if you have space.

Hi really nice video. Thanks. I have a doubt what could be the color if COT not used. Is it full orange?
@MyraMadeColor3 жыл бұрын
Not sure, I haven't made orange with marigolds.

The Hunger Games prequel mentions using marigolds to dye a white shirt and I was like "can you do that!?" we have a bunch of marigolds growing this is exciting news

Hi...nice video. Wanted to know if fresh turmeric works better or marigold for amber.

I haven't dyed with turmeric - give it a try!

Could you put the flowers in cheesecloth to make the rinsing process easier?
@MyraMadeColor2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I would make sure the material you use to contain the flowers doesn’t also absorb the dye.

Can this be done for cloth too. Any specific proportion required.😊
@MyraMadeColor3 жыл бұрын
Yes, marigolds will dye plant fibers, but the need a different mordant process.

Hi! I wanted to dye a white romper that has a modal shell and polyester lining with marigolds I dried from last year. Do you have any tips as I know this may not dye well? Thanks x
@MyraMadeColor4 жыл бұрын
Valbona Su - I don’t have experience dyeing this type of fabric. My suggestion is to do a sample dye, if possible. This allows you to try different techniques to see what gives the best color. You may need to do a two step mordant process, using tannin first, then alum. I hope this helped! There are many dyers who focus on plant fibers who may offer more guidance based on experience. Good luck!!
@paganmoon85404 жыл бұрын
Can you use calendula flowers?
@MyraMadeColor4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The color will likely be a lighter yellow but an alum mordant should help. Good luck!

How long does the color last? I want to make some scarves with the fabric I dye but I'm afraid the color will fade too soon.
@MyraMadeColor4 жыл бұрын
Lemonade Stand- it depends. All natural dyes do slowly fade over time, but that process is slowed by first using a mordant (like alum), and how you care for it (don’t leave it out in the sun, for example.) Marigolds are known for having lasting color.

Why wouldn't you put the flowers in cheesecloth?
@MyraMadeColor3 жыл бұрын
Putting flowers in a cheese cloth or other material that doesn’t also absorb the dye is another great option.

Something is wrong with the colour of the video. Either you added a yellow filter either the camera was broken... course all has a yellow greenish vibe... i do love your techiques though. Thanks for posting

Yeah, this was our first video and we were still figuring out the basics, like lighting. We learn something new (and hopefully improve!) each time. Thanks for the feedback. :-)

Every natural dye video ever, D: I am gonna leave this pot for half an hour *2hrs later....* D: So I left it for more than an hour

Eesha Anchan Likely true. 😊 No set in stone, fixed time for when a dye is done. When you like the color, you pull it. Always helpful to stay flexible.
@eeshaanchan10575 жыл бұрын
@@MyraMadeColor True. I found it quite adorably funny. The whole unpredictability factor is the key to this. Also a lot of time resources and env. factors vary for the dyer. But you know some books have some hard and fast rules of dyeing in a specific manner. I wonder how? Also would you recommend me a book for natural dyeing that you personally vouch for?
@MyraMadeColor5 жыл бұрын
Eesha Anchan Agree. I’ve often wondered why a lot of dye books give exact times or even amounts- there’s so much variability! I use them as very general guides. I will put together a list and get back to you, but the three I use most often: “Nature’s Colors” by Ida Grae, “Wild Color” by Jenny Dean “Mushrooms for Color” by Miriam Rice.

@@MyraMadeColor this is great suggestion. Festivities are coming up, and I will be investing my gift money on these. I am really interested in the science behind these and how to achieve the vibrant and gorgeous pastels from nature. It's effortlessly beautiful! Thank you so much 💞
