"On the contrary" for a lot of (future) environmentalists/researchers a direct contact with wildlife during early childhood is crucial and will allow them to stand up for these animals when they are grown up.

This video is published in response to an interest from the scientific community dedicated to the mapping, understanding and protection of endangered species and habitats. We consider this method of trapping less stressful for the newts and less damaging to the pond environment then other methods such as net catching. This is acknowledged by government authorities. In f.ex. Germany and Norway the use of newt traps - like the Ortmantrap - is the only recommended method for newt monitoring.

For animal welfare and for catch efficiency it is however important to construct an optimum trap making consideration for the wellbeing of the animals under study. Like all scientific methods this one can be abused. It is however important to remember that newt populations are seldom threatened by kids or enthusiasts. Newts are threatened because their habitat is destroyed (polluted, filled in, fish introduced, or building activities reducing the surrounding habitat, etc.).

What's the purpose of the insolation? Please explain.
@Rokreder11 жыл бұрын
The insolation keeps the trap afloat with the right end up.

To help you with your confusion: It is because your voice is in the video. You're welcome.

Why did you say my voice was in the video in first place? I am not featured in the video at all! I can also assure you, the voice is british. Can we please stop the language discussions now? Thank you :)

@mariuzz12 As I have announced in the descriotion and in other comments, there is being worked on the second part. Filming is done, there is being worked on editing it. I think we can expect it being done, quality checked and uploaded in a couple of weeks. Thank you for your patience.

It was generated with Cinecore Studio, tweaked a bit for the video... I did not compose it.

The voice is british, so if that was my voice, then I would not be dutch, right?

@jamieltfc1 We are catching them alive to set them back in freedom again after counting. It is therefor of importance to check the trap regulary. We will be comming with a part 2 to show how it is done.

It is irresponsible to show how to make a trap like this as many will not let their prey go and may harm them; newts are a protected species..please take this video down!
