I say keep the gun gameplay but get rid of the gun itself and replace it it with chaos magic like Chaos Spear. Shadow needs more focus on his Chaos Magic in game and in story perhaps.

I absolutely agree with you, Shadow shouldn’t have just one game and you laid the perfect foundation for another shot. I think that sonic team should use Metal Sonic in future games as well for the boost gameplay instead of Sonic since we always see him flying around. Anyway great video fellow game designer!

If I were to create a sequel to shadow the hedgehog, I’ll take inspiration from similar games that have two playable characters that are two sides of the same coin. Specifically the mega man x series and the DMC series. And as a personal handicap I have to figure out how to mechanically keep shadows ability to use guns, as well as, vehicles like those of sonic ‘06. With these games, levels are designed so that both characters can complete them with their specific toolset, but how they complete them can be entirely different. With possible extra routes, challenges, rewards, and secrets for each specific character. In other words, this shadow game is technically also a sonic (maybe also a silver game?) game like the adventure series, but you can play the entire game with your preferred character. So what’s important to determine is this: how do sonic’s and shadow’s (and possibly silver’s) supposed gameplay loops differ? Well, sonic is known as the blue blur that has boosts to make him faster, doing tricks in the air, and smashing through enemies at blinding speeds. But he’s not good at taking consecutive hits, so he focuses on attacking from a far away distance only for him to dash back to safety. Probably give speed test where certain jumps will let sonic do tricks in air and reach places he wouldn’t have if he didn’t, and make him into a run away bull that does more damage the faster he goes. Think like that terminal montage scene in sub space emissary where he’s blitzing everywhere until he gets so fast he jumps. While shadow (in comparison to sonic, imo) was way more offensive with his both physical and energy based attacks. And Where sonic excels at long range, shadow is for close range. Which the way I’ll do this is return shadow’s two meters. With the orange being changed while moving that works similar to sonic’s boost and dash attack but it rather let’s shadow teleport (like the intro scene in his game where he teleports between gun soldiers). With dashing normally if you don’t press the button. And his red shooting chaos spears, chaos charged gunshots, Chaos landmines, supercharging attacks and range of mobility from piloted machinery, and holding it down will send out the classic chaos blast that’s damage and range scales and how much of the bar you used. With it being charged based off the amount of carnage you caused. Maybe even give shadow a sonic the fighters attack move set to combo off with his bars. With the best way of describing this playable shadow as if you took Dante and the main character from postal 2, blended them together then gave them super speed. In other words - sonic is fun for pure speed; Shadow is fun for being a living natural disaster. With their possible strongest forms being ultra sonic that flies around like a black bird 1-shot everything. And uninhibited super shadow with stop time chaos control, and the compact and continuous chaos blast bubble from his fight with methalis - that flies like a attack helicopter. The ring system for health would still be in place, with tv screen buffs and the big compact rings ability being available. With the level design taking a page from Elden ring by having a wide open world to explore and fight enemies that’s littered with areas designed similar to the older game’s levels that rewards you for completing them. With the hub area having optional old mini-games based off stuff from older games like chao garden, sonic riders course, sonic the fighters arena, the special zones, and entirely 2-d levels. And also having the hub be where you can unlock some rewards and personalize your move set. With each of the major bosses of zones holding a chaos emerald.

What if, on top of all this, you got a different route with the gameplay and turn it into a "Hack n Slash" + "Shoot m Up." Call it a true "Run n Gun" experience. Chaos all around. Insane guns and violence galore. Turn it into the real opening of the original shadow game. Hell, throw a few motorcycle levels in there too. Not only that, but if SEGA really embraced the insane edginess and over the top nature of their vision, it could be awesome. Dial the craziness up to 11.

Love the ideas and really do want a new Shadow game or a full spinoff series. I think the main points for Shadow is SPEED and POWER and the level design should reflect that as you said. Stretches where you get to go very fast and have to think quickly to get across difficult platforming. But I think Shadow lends himself to strong, high speed stylish combat sections. You should have different skills and abilities to take on overwhelming odds that make you truly feel like the ultimate lifeform. Split abilities between speed (traversal & high speed attacks), combat (basic and non-chaos attacks) and chaos (chaos control, spear, blast etc.) Ranking well on levels & missions give you points to buy skills, and chaos emeralds unlock new ones for purchase. Like the idea of all the different new chaos abilities too. I would also have an inhibitor ring system where you have an energy bar that charges over time that when full, allows you to increase your speed & power for a limited time.

Before it's impossible how to make perfect shadow the hedgehog remaster because it's gonna be like switch characters for gameplay however co-op mode by story, cutscenes will be different like cinematic just like opening cutscene looks good, for each level Never could be much longer only because searching seven chaos emeralds for one at a time for story mode at the new cutscenes who be able for hero, normal and dark which is going to be changed to be level design if it's not possible to set Things work. Even will be modernized by these stages and also could change co-op mode, you can play other sonic characters in shadow the hedgehog remaster

It has great multiplayer shooting me and my brother would play this game all the time as a kid and obviously it does need a remastered version because the game is very old out of date but I believe if they make a remastered version of this game that there would be allot of buys especially if they got it for the Nintendo switch

4:12 in the films, the Emeralds/Master Emerald gave the user the ability to turn thoughts into reality, if Shadow were able to use that as a gameplay mechanic, that could be plausible.

A retelling would be one heck of a redemption arc and a great way to re-introduce the Adventure Story to the masses. As for the gameplay... Man, Shadow needs to teleport more. If he's not running fast, he needs to fight fast. Maybe heavily referencing the pre-rendered cutscenes in his combat? Kinda like Chaos Boost (06) but turned up to 11 and made a part of his normal moveset. As for Gunplay? Maybe that's part of his combos? My idea for a shadow game: levels would be very similar to 3d sonic levels (think generations, but with a wall jump) but they would have high, low, and mid paths . if you wanna speedrun, mostly take the top routes. If you want to use the guns, use the bottom ones, and for a blend, go down the middle. There would be a button to toggle gun mode, where the shooting would have a close up 3rd person view (like GoW, Fortnite, Any playstation exclusive after the last of us) but with a lot of movement options, including rolling, or sidestepping, like in dark souls or soul calibur. The camera would zoom in when you aim down your sights, and your crosshair will become larger. The enemies would have a good ai, and the combat specific areas would have lots of platforms as well as places to take cover. And the whole shooting section plays fast, but not too fast (may be sped up on higher difficulties, or on new game plus). The bosses would be mostly shooter based, while one or two might take place on rails (which btw, you can shoot while on the rails, and so in the stages, enemies will come at you while you railgrind) and your main enemy will be the new CEO of gun, who is hellbent on taking over the world. He will functionally work like Shadow's eggman. Soundtrack would definitely have a similar vibe to the first game, but with influenced more by the prodigy, maybe with a mix of djent? (Because I really like the idea of glitchy djent)

I want to be one of the writers of the story to the remake of Shadow the Hedgehog. I have a great idea for Shadow’s character arc that completely eliminates all of those confusing endings of whether Shadow becomes good or bad. Instead, Shadow can go from neutral to villain and finally to hero as we progress through the story. Rouge and Omega should more or less share that element as well and we have to have Team Dark back together. I want the guns and the motorbikes to be kept because that makes Shadow more cool and alongside his use for speed and use for power from the Chaos Emeralds. More importantly, the most significant part of the story: For Shadow to appreciate humanity again is for him to make a new human friend who will tag along on his journey to find his memories. That human in return would want Shadow to help her escape G.U.N because she could have some connection to alien life-forms and for stealing from them. The graphics of the game need to be as realistically awesome as the ones from Spider-Man PS4.

@@syweb2 More like re-invent what the 2005 Shadow game presented, we still need to have the Shadow amnesia story but despite finding the Chaos Emeralds, he can’t remember anything, they just give him power and he lets his desire for power take over him, have an ego and become villainous and selfish. He would finally remember if he goes to the ARK and later he gives up his villainous ways and becomes a hero. That would happen throughout the story.

I think your overall approach is the wrong direction to take it. Don’t get me wrong, I think the decisions you made for that game sound great based on the direction you took it, I just think you took the wrong direction. For one, I don’t think this game should have more than 1 emerald all together. Too many sonic games completely rely on emeralds as the crux of the story, and Shadow should have something else. For another I think we should be continuing from Shadow’s 06 story. He should be working with GUN, and maybe the premise is cleaning up the fallout of Project Shadow. He is now directly hunting down all of his own variants, while also shearing off any auxiliary studies using the data from the progenitor project. I think shadow should most be alone for the story, with his only major allies being Omega, Rouge, and Espio. Omega is sort of like the Oracle to his batman, Rouge is moreso his Nightwing (clearly stands on her own but is helping shadow using her skill set), and Espio simply is acting as a form of information broker which gets Espio funding for his investigation-oriented team to pay their bills (essentially GUN funding as incentive). The gameplay should revolve around 06 Shadow’s chaos powers and combat oriented nature (especially the P-06 version), but also be combined with the Shadow of Water fan game gameplay. Shadow is fast, sure, but his main draw is that he’s a natural chaos user even without an emerald. He’d have: - Chaos Boost for combat (P-06 style) which includes Chaos blast as part of the meter system - Chaos control to slow time for puzzles (SoW) with a rechargeable meter - Chaos spear/Lance(chargeable) both for combat and solving puzzles by having a manual aiming mode so you can target switches (P-06 + SoW) - Chaos Burst as a sort of dodge/parry - Chaos Snap (when in boost will warp to an enemy instead of simply using the homing attack) - Chaos Dash to clear large gaps while in the air OR to propel yourself in a direction while in aim mode (SoW) - Chaos Nightmare, Punishment, Rift, etc can be finishing attacks on bosses Beyond that he would have homing attack, spin-dash, double jump, free falling/glide gameplay (from modern fan-games) drop, slide, wall running, lightspeed dash, and rail grinding as movement options I think having Sonic Adventure style upgrades as well as enhancement stations to directly improve your gear using GUN’s tech is also a great idea. As well I think instead of having lightspeed attack, it should simply be a way to enhance your next move, for example chaos spear/Lance could becoming Chaos Nova/Supernova and launches 3 of the same attack each of which explode on impact. Upgrades could speed up recharge times, reduce charge times for lightspeed, make Chaos Attack (his combo after homing attack) stronger, etc. I think stages can be literally anywhere previously explored in all of sonic since some of the clones/experiments may have used chaos control to escape to other zones entirely. But I think their should be a fair amount of platforming and puzzle gameplay, with specific Mach-speed sections that utilize the 06 style (but polished more) along with boost-style gameplay (making it clear that shadow has to use chaos power to replicate Sonic’s natural boost ability, so as to demonstrate the key difference in their speed). I also think shadow should be able to pick up and throwing things like in his first solo game. I think ultimately this allows shadow to ditch the “edgy” title easily by being more like his SA2, Heroes, 06, and Forces personality, rather than his 05 Edgy the Hedgy persona. This will allow the game to demonstrate Shadow’s power extremely well, while also utilizing his character growth in a manner that satisfies both his lore and gameplay. Even if not the fallout of project Shadow and other projects Connected to it, GUN would likely have a lot story possibilities for Shadow to run with. Anyway, just my thoughts. Let me know what all of you think and feel free to ask me questions since I’m sure I missed a few points that I probably thought of but forgot to mention. Cheers!

See this game was coming right as Parkour was gaining wider acknowledgement (the jason bourne movies as example.) Why not do that? Tha'ts fast, when you're doing freerunning right it's also a flow where yo ugo from thing to thing to thing. Also make Shadow's supporting caste more of a thing. GUN, Rouge, Omega? that's his cast and 'home ground.' Honestly? a Saints Row Esque open world game with a heavy emphasis on freerunning would have fit the guy well. I mean look at ps2 spiderman. I love so much the original game, but I always thought that if it was more conservative and continuist, in regard to the first 3D Sonic games, the game would have worked better. One single , well written story, or at leas two; linear fast and challenging level design, of course the phisics from the adventure titles implementing the guns mechanic; wouldnt be revolutionary but would be great.

You know what I loved about shadow the hedgehog when I was little? It wasn’t called shadow the hedgehog: a sonic game, Sonic: Shadow the hedgehog or any of those titles. It was called shadow the hedgehog. The title had confidence in being able to sell based on the character, rather then who it is associated with. Sure it left me a little confused when I was little, but that was because I was so use and sick of so many games and films doing stupid titles! How many people out there hate the new modern warfare 2 game based on the title alone? Or how about EA’s star wars battlefronts? They bloody did it twice as well! It’s always such a disrespect to the originals when that happens.

I dunno about the Chaos Emerald bit. I like that they're interchangeable and saying that they grant different abilities instantly brings my mind to the elements like fire, ice, and so on, and I think that's overdone. I would say the partner mechanic you brought up could interfer with gameplay fluidity, but some of the missions in Sonic Generations proved it could work. Then there's the different endings. Honestly it should be fine, but I'm the kind of person that obsesses over what is and isn't canon(to the extent of even equipment appearing in cutscenes like Kingdom Hearts or Kid Icarus Uprising) but that's just me. I think it's been too long since the original Shadow for a sequel to relate to the original's story, but I do think it could take cues from it. You seemed interested in the idea of alternate dimensions, so let's go with that. Sonic's shtick is just saving the world, exploring, and helping out. Knuckles is all about the Echidna civilization and, more importantly, the Master Emerald. Maybe Shadow's thing could be exploring the origin of the Chaos Emeralds. From Shadow's game we know that the emeralds are known of throughout the universe, and in Unleashed they're tied to the history of Earth itself, but at the same time they've appeared more often in Sonic's world. Maybe the emeralds are from elsewhere altogether, and something is drawing the three locations together. As for the Final Boss(though not necessarily antagonist), I think it'd be best to take inspiration from where it all started; Sonic and Shadow's rivalry. The antagonist has been defeated, but proves to have the last laugh when Sonic is compromised, the Chaos Emeralds turning against him and turning him into a mind-controlled Super Sonic. While Shadow hasn't used the emeralds as much, he has have more experience with Chaos powers in general, and proves to be the only thing between the universe' safety and Sonic becoming the villain's ultimate weapon.

@@KingdomAce I remember having an idea for a story where Eggman tries to conquer the Special Zone, but that seems too Classic Sonic related to bring into a Shadow game. Maybe this alternate dimension could be based on it, and Eggman is trying to capitalize on the discovery? Maybe he could even use this dimension like a battery to power a series of upgraded Shadow Androids, now capable of going toe to toe against Shadow himself. Also, sorry I forgot; Nintendo recommendations! My instant go-to is Kirby!

I'm not too fond of the gunplay in the orignal game. It doesn't fit shadow's character to use a gun since his best friend was killed by a gun and that was traumatic for him. But I think it'd be cool if maybe he could use other weapons and the motorcycle is fun too!

I'd disagree purely because trauma affects people in different ways, someone who lost a family member to a gun can also trigger a mindset later in life where they feel defenseless without one of their own. They're scared at all times when they dont have one. I know someone like this personally. Trauma isnt one size fits all, yanno? But yes I think other weapons and vehicles would be cool!

The multiple routes were generally disliked as well, not to mention Shadow mainly works with Rouge and Omega. Also....he is not a darn antihero that will side with evil anymore. He has permanently been on the side of good since the final ending of his game. Agree to Disagree, and No Bad Blood Intended. 1/10

Honestly shadow should have crazy ass combat so much so to overshadow sonics combat I mean he has waay better utility chaos control, chaos attacks, teleport, limit break, low grade flight
