Glad it came in handy! If you are using longer stock, I would suggest making it longer. I have found that cutting short pieces from long stock it tips after the cut. You may need something to support the offcut. Happy Building!

What reason do people place these at a 45 versus straight.

The goal is to get each piece cut to a 45* angle. With each piece at 45* you create a perfect 90* angle. The great thing about this jig: even if you are off a little, let's say 44.8* the opposing side would be 44.2* thus making a perfect 90* angle. Hope that helps!

@@High5iveStudio Thanks for your comment. Is there any reason you would not place the board square to the table? Many people with this jig ( I am considering building one) have an issue with it tipping, like you show in the video. Placing the board sqaure seems to help that issue, but with my lack of experience and expertise it caused me to wonder does the board need to be at a 45 if the square is at a 45 to the blade?

@@stephenneill3375 That's a great question. In order to make a perfect miter it will need to be 45*. There can be tipping in 2 different ways. the first would be the jig tilting back towards you, this is the reason I used the miter rail with the washer that slides and locks in the T channel on the table saw. The other way is if you are cutting longer stock. After you cut your first miter on the left and then move it to the right side to cut to length, the stock can tip forward after the cut. This has happened to me several times and I end up placing another 3/4" offcut under the stock to keep it level. In hindsight, I would have made the jig longer on the left side to help support the stock. My intuition also believes that would help with tipping towards you.
