Last comment, I swear! I wonder how these would look in other sizes... Maybe you could even use layer cakes and make throw pillows?

That would be super fun to make! As long as you start with perfect squares, the sky's the limit!

What did you fill the pincushion with?
@SmittenKitten.6 жыл бұрын
They appear to have used a polyfil, but there are many other things you can use: cotton/wool, batting, ground walnut shells, lavender, beads, sand, emory, fabric scraps, a combination of these things... I've even heard where people use steel wool to fill (the idea is that it sharpens the pins)! :)

I made one 10"x10". Good size, but not so cute as the small one.

I love using a doll needle, its easy to go in and through without fighting the pin cushion. I love these colors, super cute pin cushion I never thought of piling buttons. TFS ❣️

These are SO flipping cute! You could whip up quite a few in no time with a single mini charm pack, too. I'm going to try glue basting the pinwheels to see if that helps them come together without being so "fiddly." I'm loving all the Christmas fabrics that are popping up right now, too! Might as well get some little Christmas gifts out of the way now instead of waiting until the middle of December (which, of course, I would _never_ do...) :D

PS - It would be extra cute to add a second set of buttons on the other side of the pin cushion, making it perfectly "reversible." Love the Christmas pins!!

I would have liked to have seen a demonstration of sewing the pinwheel top together because it seems like it would be awkward/difficult.
@SmittenKitten.6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you could try to glue baste the pinwheels down before sewing? Or even tacking them down with a few hand stitches before sewing them together? I'm going to try it to see if it would help things be less awkward!

Hi there! We found that pinning, perhaps even a little excessively if you're worried they'll fall out of place, really helps! After that, it's just a straight stitch with a 1/4 inch seam!

wouldn't it be easier to sew the buttons on BEFORE you sew it together and stuff it?

Did you stuff it with polyfill or sand type stuff?

Hi there! We used polyfil!

Was difficult, at times, to see what she was doing with the "up close" shots, as her hand was in the way of the camera. Would have been better had the camera angle been from the left as she was right-handed.
