The sun and harsh weather has ruined two canvas porch swings but to today I will show you How To Make A Porch Swing Ergonomic, $120 and Comfortable! After a long day's work there is nothing better than sitting on something you build while surveying your hard work. When I designed this swing I made it so that it could be built from dimensional lumber you can get at the home center but I had a bunch of cherry I got got pennies on the dollar, I really like the look of cherry so that is what I used! You can use pressure treated lumber, cedar, or even white pine as long as you finish it promptly.
DIYTyler Porch Swing Plans: www.diytyler.c...
The two person porch swing has curves in the seat and on the back and has proven to be very comfortable even for long periods of time. If you download the plans you will get three files, the plans, and two 1:1 templates that allow you to print and make a template to get the curves right every time. The plans do not include a frame to hang the swing but there are plenty of options on the internet to fill that gap.

Tyler, I bought your plans and was considering a modification. Is there any reason you can think of NOT to make the crosspieces longer and have it extend past the seat? In this way the chain doesn't have to be threaded through the arms. I've seen some swings that have that feature and I like it better. That's not a criticism of your work, just a personal preference on my part. TIA. Mark

Beautiful swing. I love the swings that have the curves. So much more comfortable. I cringe when I see someone build a square shape swing. I just wanna tell them, 'Are are bodies square? Humm no.' The link to your swing plans are not there. Did you move them? Thanks for your video. Thumbs up and new subscriber here. You did a great job! Love it!

You should update your list of materials. The back supports require 2 x 8 x 8. They don’t fit a 2 x 6 x 8

this is awesome! question: from a structural point of view, why is the second eyelet in the center, and then fed through the hole that drilled behind it (vs) put the second eyelet on the back corner? I am not well versed in woodworking (learning!), but my first thought was that the chain would rub on the arm inside the drilled hole. thanks!

I’m going to guess not or else he would put plastic up or something. I’ll hazard a guess the small aerosolized particles that don’t land on the piece may dry before they hit the floor/any thing else? So everything may have a (white?) dust on it that he blows off everything when he’s done?

Good Morning T. I am in the process of putting my shop together and one of the big problems I have is material handling. I like the cart you have that you can put your sheet goods on and it will pivot and is at the height of your table saw but what do you have to store your sheet goods?.

Hey Dave. Against the wall by the door (right when you enter the shop under the lumber rack) there is a space for plywood to lean against the wall. I don't keep too much on hand so it hasn't been to bad to get to the stuff in the back.

I am concerned with the eyebolt connection. The force on the bolt is perpendicular to the grain and will act as a lever to split the the 2x timber length wise. The weight carrying capability of the timber in this configuration (through the thickness of the board) is only about half the strength if the eyebolt was installed through the width of the board because the wood fiber (cellulose) is twice as strong as lignin. If installing the eyebolt in this way isn’t a option then the timber needs to be reinforced on at least one side with a gusset (metal or plywood). It would be better to use a through eyebolt with a nut and washer than a lag style. Remember that dynamic force is much larger than static force and the weight may not be centered so a 300# person sitting on one end and swinging could bust that thing up in a hurry.
