I am a teacher - I love how you explained the science of sound at work in the Bottlephone, and how to make the Bottlephone & Thongophone. We are using these videos in our remote learning science classes & students are creating their own pitch instruments at home. Thanks!

@@KaboomPercussion Excellent
@KaboomPercussion4 жыл бұрын
@@RoChaEsq so the lengths we have are (all in cm) 66.4, 70.5, 79.7, 89.6, 101, 107.1, 120.5, 132.8, 159.4, 179.2, 202. Because we have it in the suitcase we have a couple of elbow joints in each pipe which makes the measuring a bit hard so if you do want to go that way I recommend cutting the pipes longer than you need and then trimming to tune. Good luck!

@@KaboomPercussion Thank you so much! I'll try to look for the materials as soon as I can in order to build the instrument ^_^ I like your work and the way you use home materials to play music. We need to take advantage of those resources. Keep working as creatively as you do, it inspires people to do the same. You guys do an excellent job. Big hugs for you guys :-)

@@RoChaEsq When you get all of the materials, could you let me (or us) know about how much? I want to get an idea of the cost so I can see if I can afford to make it. It looks somewhat cheap, but who knows! Thank you, Kaboom, for sharing the lengths!!!

Thanks as always for watching! We're going ok at the moment thanks - it's pretty early days in Australia so I'm sure it'll get worse in the next few weeks but fingers crossed we can take some lessons from other parts that have been hit harder already. School shows are our full time job and they're all cancelled so it's going to be a slim few months - but we're looking forward to having lots of time for KZbin. Hope you're coping ok over there!

What app do you use to tune the pipes? This is cool. I'm building one out of 3.5" underground conduit. I bend mine by adding 300 degree F sand to warm it. eventually I would like to make this a permanent outdoor structure for kids to play at a playground. And that water will naturally drain out the pipes. Struggling to find an app that I can set a desired frequency and get a red light green light effect when hitting it. I have an unlimited supply of free conduit to make this from

I really wanna make this for my 5 and 2 year old! they would have a blast playing this!! If you or anyone might know the best way to make one, I would greatly appreciate it!
@KaboomPercussion4 жыл бұрын
Oh that's great to hear. It depends how exactly you want to make them - straight lengths of pipe are easier to tune than ones with the elbow joints in them, but the elbow joints let them rest on the floor. The width of the pipe doesn't affect the pitch, only the length. We just bought PVC from the hardware and cut it with a hacksaw to tune them. You should be able to find note length to pitch measurements online easily enough. Good luck!

We used high density foam which we cut to shape. And then we hold the pipes together with lots of elastic bands which works pretty well. Good luck and we’re looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. You can email us at kaboom@kaboompercussion.com

Question #1: can't tell from the speeded-up version, but how long does it actually take from opening up the suitcase to full setup? Question #2: what kind of hassles/delays do you get in airports having to explain the contents of your luggage? :-)
@KaboomPercussion4 жыл бұрын
Good questions! Time is about 3 mins for the two of us, but usually it's just me while Cat is tuning the bottles and by myself it's about 5 mins. It's a very precise Tetris to get them all back in a way that fits and I'm getting much faster with it which is especially helpful for packing up! We usually get some funny looks from the baggage staff when we're flying with a pair of Ikea fold-up chairs and a collapsible table - "you know they have tables and chairs in New Zealand right?". But apart from that it's been all good so far! The thongophone is yet to fly but if schools come back online it'll be heading to NZ with us mid year :D
