I’ve got one set up very similarly. We gave up on keying or set screwing and just drilled through the love joy and the grinder shaft and stuck roll pin through it. Meat has to be damn nese froze though. The tolerance on a hand crank grinder (in my experience) will not allow it to feed if the meat is thawed.

Thanks for watching the video!!! The motor is a dayton Gear reduction motor 1/4 hp with a 60rpm turn at the shaft. This speed turns a good amount for meat out pretty fast and is better then by hand.

good idea, but you took a $350 motor, put it on a $50 grinder, had a machine shop probably do $50-100 worth of work (most of us don't get a buddy discount), then bought $100-150 in supplies to make a $600 grinder? A lem #10 cost less and can do just a good of a job. I dig the ingenuity, but I don't see the practicality unless you have the motor just laying around.

You are exacty right Rodney. I dont do these videos to save the bank account. Also these videos are not intended for everybody to build.But more to give people Ideas and maybe the drive to be creative in their builds!!!! I built this because I got sick of store bought grinders blowing out the gears every other year and spending 2 to 300 on new ones. This grinder has done 8 venison grinds now and is still going strong. That is more then i can say for the $300 grinders I have had in the past that lasted 2 1/2 deer. Is it the best... Nope. Did I take pride in building it.....Yup!! So thank you for watching and your Break down. Keep up the Good work Soldier!!!!

Cool, this is what I've been thinking about for primarily chicken carcasses for dog food. For anyone else, you need something larger than a #10 if you want to grind chicken/fowl bones. My only real change will be to insure the box frame is longer on the back so the motor is fully supported and can't tip backwards. Might never be a problem, but if one makes the front shorter you could be in for a surprise when you pull the grinder off for cleaning.

I use a baking pan that fits under there perfect. I like the option of coviering the hole and using the sauage attachments on the flat surface.

The motor is a dayton Gear reduction motor 1lpl8 1/4 hp with a 60rpm turn at the shaft. The 1/4 hp is plenty of power for this grinder in my opinion. Thanks for watching

Most of these parts were items I had around the shop. I bought the Motor at an estate sale pretty cheap. If you had to buy it all new I would say it could be up over $400

Have u done a video for porkert poppy seed grinder? I want to make it electric and I think only way is a belt and pulley system because the grinder must be tight for fine grinding. Any ideas?

I have not Work on that style. Looks a bit smaller than the Grinder in this video. Maybe a small lower rpm motor and a pully would be the answer. Thanks for watching!!

The shaft size on the motor was 3/4" so i had the auger turned to 3/4".The ID of the lovejoy was 3/4" i found them on amazon.

Yes, I had it turned down by a local machine shop. Could not get video. It was tapered I had them turn it down to 3/4".

If you bought all the parts new you could building this for around $3-$350 Dollars. If you are a maker and have a collection of odds and end parts laying around I am sure you could make it cheaper. I had this #32 Grinder for years and the motor I found at an Estate sale. Thanks for watching!!!!

Hey Sean, This unit has held up nice. With that being said I only use it for one or two deer a year. I have burned out other store bought units after one deer. The RPM on the shaft is around 26 rpm. Thanks for watching hope it was helpful!!!

@@sean7193 It was an estate sale find. 1lpl8 is a Dayton motor that is close (30rpm) . I have another that i was going to use for this project but i broke a Plastic gear in it. We have the same motor (1lpl8) on a homemade Beer keg fish scaler that has been scaling fish for years with no issue!!
