Wow. Great minds really do think alike. I came up with this almost exactly the same way you did - layers of cardboard to create the 3d shape, card stock, aluminum tape...I use these cardboard creations to replace the real ones on productions for when people need to drop them, fall with them, etc.

@Shocking Clockwork I don't like that the corrugated cardboard shows if I don't cover the ends, so I create a lining. Since I use electrical tape, it will unwind if I don't wrap it securely. If I made the video today, I might have elected to wrap the pieces in aluminum instead, and then painted that.
