This is a tutorial on how I make my quilts in illustrator. I will show you how to create the shapes and then sort the shapes onto different art board making the quilt laser ready.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am a newbie to my laser and Illustrator. You explained everything that this newbie could understand. I just cut and painted the sunflower quit you have and just I love it. Again thank you.

Would it also work if you just cut out your first quilt and not separated by color? Then paint individually? I have not done anything with kerf and am not sure if that works. Great tutorial. Exactly what I was wondering how to do.
@welcomehomecustom3 жыл бұрын
oh yes. You could do a straight cut. There will be a little bit of gap due to kerf but nothing to fret over. I separate by color for my large quilts that won't fit into my laser cutter!

Great tutorial video. Helped me tremendously. I am wondering how you handle it when you have a picture in the center of the design sich as your rings or the one with the horses. I assume that makes it a little harder. Do you have an illustrator video on that? Thanks.
@welcomehomecustom Жыл бұрын
I don't have a video for that! It is more complex for sure. It's the same concept, but you have to delete overlapping lines and then you pathfinder divide.

@@welcomehomecustom thanks. I have been using Inkscape but it is very time consuming to do this work. I subscribed to Illustrator last ngiht so I am going to try and follow your video again for practice. THanks.

@@davidcochran934 Illustrator is well worth it. I tried to use inkscape but I did find it cumbersome. I have another video on monograms you might find useful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5S8k4GrbtRqpsk

I am a fabric quilter looking for help making my designs a reality and this has helped! Is there an easy way for me to add the ¼ inch seam allowance to the pieces after separating them to their own boards? Like selecting all of them that are on one board and scaling them up? thanks for the tutorial, it wasn’t boring to watch you work, and it was very informative! :)
@welcomehomecustom2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Once separated, you would use “offset” to add 1/4 inch to every piece.
@joeep463 жыл бұрын
I thought it would be hard to put together. But it really isn't. For each color you only has 6 different pieces.

How do you know how much fabric you need?

Hi! This is to make wood quilt patterns for a laser cutter! Not a cloth quilt!
@cynthiacrumpassaretti38863 жыл бұрын
Again this is designing the quilt not writing the pattern. I search how to write the pattern and get this.
@welcomehomecustom3 жыл бұрын
Hi. I am not sure what you mean by "write the pattern." In this video I show how I create a quilt pattern, sort the boards by color, and make it laser ready. If you are not using a laser then this video is probably not for you.
