Awesome man you won't regret it! One thing to watch is the last step where I seal the flock. Don't use iso and just spray small amounts of matte sealant in layers. Too much and the added weight makes the clumps fall off. Best of luck!

What thickness mdf board did you use for these? And did you have to seal the MDF to prevent it from absorbing the glue/paint and warping?
@dicedrinksanddadjokes Жыл бұрын
Hiya, the MDF was 4.75mm thick. I did not seal it. The pieces are fairly small so that while there is some warping it is not significant enough to be a problem.

Hey Adam, saw your video post from Facebook in the LOTR group. The video is very well made mate. awesome job. I do have to say that I had a TERRIBLE time making these trees in exactly the same method as you did here, with the same exact products from WS. I found that the more coats of Matt Scenic Sealant I applied, the more of the foliage clumps started falling off. Leaving me with allmost empty trees. Litteraly 40% of the foliage fell off somewhere in the process. And even after like 4 coats, still clumps were falling off at a huge rate after use in games. It just was not sturdy enough for me. Did you encounter any of these problems?
@dicedrinksanddadjokes2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, that really sucks that it hasn't worked well for you. I did have some issues with clumps falling off but generally found that they stuck back on easily enough because the hob-e-tac stays tacky. With some of the looser ones I used a little contact adhesive to really jam them in place. What sealant did you use out of interest?
@Timmie172 жыл бұрын
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes I used the Geek Gaming Scenics one. Before I used it I sprayed the clumps with ISO too. They just got too heavy and the glue did not hold them. Nowadays I just fill a tub with foliage, absolutely drown it in ISO and PVA. Let it harden. And then tear off bits and superglue them to the armatures. Makes a world of difference. Much sturdier trees

How much did this project cost I'm curious? Just the armatures and flocking would probably cost me about 200$ where I live (Canada) .
@dicedrinksanddadjokes2 жыл бұрын
In New Zealand the armatures are about $33 a pack and I used three. The clump foliage would have cost me about $50 all up. So including all the base materials, glue, flock, mdf etc, it cost me approximately $200.

Adam. I’ve draw inspiration from your video and how good your trees look and I took the plunge to make some myself. I tried various pva glues and they were rubbish. So I switched to liquid nails which worked well to stick foliage. However when I soak my foliage in mat sealant all the foliage falls off. Could this be the glue or am I overdoing the sealant?
@dicedrinksanddadjokes2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had the same issue to be honest. Though Hob-E-TAC is good because it stays tacky forever. Because the branches stay sticky I can just stick clumps back on when they fall off. With the sealant, I think it’s better to do multiple light sprays to avoid clumps getting too heavy which I think leads to them falling off. Maybe I need to do a follow up video 😬. Let me know how you go!
