I have done a ton of comping with BIAB. Studio One will let you simply move each track as a sub track without having to record it, however the process is the same otherwise. A cool trick for writing is to comp a solo to become your vocal melody and then replace it with a vocal. Thank you for sharing your process.

If you can convert the solo to MIDI, you can now create a decent vocal with Synthesizer V. And I'm sure that technology will improve very soon.

I think the newest version of BIAB has made this video almost outdated. You can now do this kind of thing within the program--not with as much control as this, but a hell of a lot easier. I'd like to think that PGMusic watched this video and that's why they made these improvements to the program, but I doubt it. : )

I don't understand. Around @10:40 you say that you can't comp the tracks in cubase... Why not?

My understanding has always been that you have to record numerous takes all at once to be able to comp in Cubase. That's how you get one track with multiple lanes. Dragging a bunch of separate tracks will not do that AFAIK. So I show how to re-record the separate tracks so that you CAN comp the BIAB tracks in Cubase. But perhaps there is another way. If you know of a video with another method, please send the link and I will add it below. But the main point of the video is still the same. You can control a BIAB soloist by comping a number of them in a DAW. Thanks for writing.

Thanks for subscribing. I'm using 10.5. I think comping goes at least back to Cubase version 8. If you have a little hand in your tools, you are good to go!

The older I get the less interesting it is with sampled and boxed sounds I want to play for real using real instruments and sing. If I use Logic at all which is my prefered recording software I use it as a multichannel taperecorder. Sometimes I even use the free version of Davinci Resolve, not Fairchild that is built in to Resolve but the ordinary audio track that is on the Edit page. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqLYZXhjaaicbas

I understand what you're saying, but for me it's kind of the opposite. When I was younger I played guitars and pianos live and sang into a TEAC reel-to-reel. But now that I'm older, I have arthritis in my fingers and don't play guitar or piano as well as I used to. My voice isn't as good either. So I am grateful that virtual instruments and DAWs exist and I can still take the musical ideas in my head and make something out of them.

I always upgrade, so it was whatever was newest when I made the video. It was some time ago. But I don't think the version matters. What matters is how much of an investment you make in styles. They don't come with the program, you have to buy Xtra Styles packs. The video is about having all those options.

PGMusic doesn't discount their products, but they do offer discounts on upgrades.To save money, you can buy the Pro version (entry) from a retailer for a discount and then upgrade. You can even check out eBay--just make sure to check with PGMusic that you are buying from an authorized seller. The next Windows upgrade happens in December. I think the Mac upgrade sale is in May or June. Hope this is helpful.
