This will never work. Skip to the end. Oh, it works really well. hmmm. And there could be a million variations of this. I always wondered why those orbital sanders that you buy on vibrate a tiny distance. They don't work very well at all, and millions have been made. They do nerve damage to your hands and arms. They suck. I really like this set up here. I think it could be made a lot better with real materials, and the rotar horizontal to the table and not vertical like it is here. Put a motor underneath and clean up the table area. Make a stand alone unit. Make it from something that has a nice metal plate.and stand like an old table saw, or such. Maybe a table router, or just something with a flat steel plate and stand that is solid. Old rusty one can be cleaned up nicely. With better components, you could make a version that you can adjust the travel, and motor velocity, and tune it for different jobs. Great build. Subscribed.

Hm but why is the control better when the sandpaper is wiggling around and thus changing the direction of the force it applies to the workpiece all the time. also you can adjust the speed on a decent belt sander. 🙂 6:06 that doesn't look like anything near "good control" to me. I'm sorry :D

I don't think it would work, that would be to much area. If you glue a full sheet on a block and use it as a hand sanding block it would be very difficult.
