How to make a rubber comb for removing setter/spaniel dead coat

How I make the rubber comb which I use on setters - but can be used on many other breeds - you need a fine or medium comb ( I prefer one with handle ) a plain rubber band

This has been so helpful, thank you. I'm currently dealing with spay coat in my 6 year old border collie that had to have an emergency spay almost a year ago (I had wanted to do OSS, as she is a working dog, but a last minute change of staff on the day of her surgery left us without a choice. Her coat used to be silky, straight, and would only blow twice a year. Hardly any shedding as long as I combed her twice a month... (I usually ran a comb over her quickly every day, just because we primarily work on farms) At the risk of sounding vain, I was quite proud of it and even regular vet would comment on "always such a well groomed dog". But now? She's a curly fluffy muppet that resembles something one would pull out of their shower or kitchen sink drain. Her coat is lacking its water repellant nature. Before spay, we could work out in the rain all day and she would still be dry at skin level. 15 minutes out in the rain now and she's soaked and shivering. No matter what I used, I couldn't seem to completely shed her out unless hand stripping. I even used a double edged flea comb (my previous go-to shedding tool) and it would not get the soft abundant fluff that reminds me of a version of her puppy coat.... or like a horse with Cushing's. I couldn't understand why I have been combing her every day and the fur keeps matting, despite hardly anything coming out. Even with expensive shedding tools! I just sat here while watching this video, located a rubber band, put it on one of my combs...... it works!!!! Thank you!!!

Glad you find something that works well - I highly recommend Andis deshedding rake - if you’d an find one ! It looks like coat king but it’s not the same and doesn’t cut the coat Spayed double coated breeds I find loose their ability to shed seasonally and rather shed all year around without blowing their coats - so regular deshed is needed - also feeding omega oils will help the coat - good luck

Thank you so much for this excellent video. It was a little difficult because the fantastic groomer is very soft spoken, but no worries, I got every word! Have had Engies for years and only used Coat Kings for strip, so this will be a real challenge for my young 6 month dude. We'll learn together.
