How to make a shape 3D in After Effects

To turn a shape from 2D into 3D in Adobe After Effects, you need to do 2 things.
First, select the layer you want to turn into 3D and then select the "3D layer"-box next to it.
If you can't see these icons, right-click on the top row in the timeline window, go to "Columns" and select "Switches".
Now the layer is technically 3D already, but if you change the view from "Front" to "Custom View 1" you can see that there's still no depth in the shape.
So now, you want to open your layer and go down to "Geometry Options".
As you can see, this one is greyed out, so you need to change the renderer (which you can also do in the "Composition" window) to Cinema 4D.
Now, when you open "Geometry Options" and change "Extrusion depth", the shape will increase in this third direction, which makes it look more 3D.

I believe that's just your computer trying to handle the changes in the program in real time. Once you export, it should still get sharp. But if you want it to be sharp at all times, you can change the "preview-settings" at the bottom of the Composition window to "Full quality". I have a question about this... what about arbitrary shapes like a diamond that has curved edges, not something typical like a square? I'm trying to make my company's logo look like a 3 dimensional diamond but the shape itself isn't a perfect diamond, it has curved edges. Would I have to recreate the shape as a 3D image? And if so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks! NOTE: When I looked for "Extrude shape" it wasn't listed under Geometry Options.

Hey! If I understand you correctly, you want to be able to see the edges of the shape? Unfortunately, you can't just add a stroke, because the stroke in this case is all tha other sides except the front. (Try to add a stroke and change the color and you will see what I mean.) I would suggest adding a light source inside After Effects (Menu > Layer > New > Light) and then you can start to make the shape "come alive". But working in 3D like this requires a whole series of tutorials, but hopefully this can point you in the right direction. :) And let me know if I misunderstood the question. Have a great day!

I tried to do this using the Shape tool,create each face for cube , add stroke for each one from Layer, Layer Styles, Stroke and finally join each face to form the cube, it works but its not practical.
