Hi. That's a good way to build this type of ring. I do almost the same way, but a little different. I add a cylinder - then add two cubes to control the thickness at the bottom and sides. Then I make a ring with the "Lathe" command, just like you. After that I compress the ring with the "Move" command and then cut it with the cylinder - size.
